We recently connected with Dominique Howard and have shared our conversation below.
Dominique, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is my album Beauty Within Chaos. I created it as a dedication to mental health awareness, using my platform to shed light on an issue that affects so many especially within the dance community.
I started the project in 2020 and released it in 2021, during one of the most challenging periods of my life. The weight of everything happening in the world, combined with homesickness after moving to a new state, financial struggles, and personal trauma, pushed me into a deep depression. Music became my outlet, a way to process everything I was going through.
Beyond my own story, I wanted to highlight the voices of some of my favorite dancers—Rexx, Basix, Maddhatta, Fudd, Krucial, Jigman, and Valerie giving them space to share their experiences as performers navigating mental health. People often see dancers express themselves through movement, but they rarely hear the personal struggles behind the art. This project gave them a voice.
The most powerful part of Beauty Within Chaos was the impact it had. I received messages from people telling me that the album helped them through their own battles. To know that something I created could resonate that deeply—and even help save lives means everything to me. I’m incredibly proud of that project and its purpose.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve been making music since I was 16. I’ve always been a huge fan of music production but didn’t know where to start—until one of my best friends gave me a copy of FL Studio. That moment sparked my journey into producing beats. Around the same time, at 17, I got into dancing, specifically Krump, thanks to my little brother. He introduced me to the movie Krump vs. Breakn, and after watching it, I became hooked. Seeing the energy and expression in Krump, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of.
With my growing passion for both music and dance, I had a thought: Why not make my own Krump music? That decision shaped my career. I started creating Krump beats and, over time, became one of the top Krump producers in the world. My music has played a role in advancing the global Krump movement, providing dancers with high-energy, battle-ready tracks that elevate their performances.
I provide a range of creative services, including custom music production for dancers, performances, and battle events. I also DJ Krump sessions and dance events, curating exclusive music experiences for the culture. Beyond that, I’ve produced music for major brands, events, and influential dancers, including Chris Brown, Tight Eyez, B Dash, and many more. My beats have been used in events like Red Bull Dance Your Style, Fusion Concept Festival, and Nike’s Beyond Doubt campaign.
What sets me apart is my deep connection to the dance community. I don’t just produce music I understand the movement, the emotion, and the energy behind it. I craft beats that allow dancers to express themselves fully, and that connection is what makes my music resonate worldwide. There are people who don’t speak my language, but they understand my music, and that’s an incredible honor.
One of my biggest goals is to push Krump music onto a mainstream stage to see it recognized on the same level as other dance music genres. I want to perform at major festivals, travel to the biggest Krump events worldwide, and continue building bridges between music, dance, and culture. Through my brand, BravoDomo, I aim to inspire, innovate, and leave a lasting impact on the scene.
For now, I’m focused on continuing to create, collaborate, and grow. My journey started with a simple passion for music and dance, and today, it has evolved into something much bigger than myself. I’m excited for what’s ahead and grateful to be part of a movement that keeps pushing boundaries.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was taking things too personally especially in the entertainment industry, where broken promises and missed opportunities are common. Early on, I expected a lot from people in better positions than me, thinking their support would be a direct path to success. But when things didn’t go my way, I let bitterness take over, and that negativity started affecting my mindset, my intentions, and even my creative decisions.
At one point, I caught myself moving selfishly, operating out of frustration rather than passion. It was a tough realization, but I had to shift my focus. I learned that a closed door doesn’t mean it’s locked it just means I need to keep pushing, stay patient, and remember why I started in the first place. Faith, consistency, and self-belief are what truly open the right doors.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
One thing I’ve learned from past relationships, friendships, and work experiences is that many people don’t realize how important it is for creatives to feed their inner beast by that, I mean our creativity. Creativity isn’t just a hobby or a job for us; it’s like fuel for our mental and emotional well being. When I go too long without creating, I start to feel lost, like I’m not serving my purpose. It’s not just about making art or music it’s about staying connected to who we are. That’s something I think non creatives might not fully understand, but it’s crucial to our existence.
