Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dominique Dixon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dominique, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Looking back at internships and apprenticeships can be interesting, because there is so much variety in people’s experiences – and often those experiences inform our own leadership style. Do you have an interesting story from that stage of your career that you can share with us?
When I first got started I was doing my internship as an exit project to complete my degree. I went into the appropriate field of work that aligned with my degree (Exercise Science). To be completely honest I had no desire to be a trainer or even work in the fitness industry. I went into this internship with my mind made up that this was just another thing I had to do in order to graduate and receive my degree, but what I quickly realized was I loved being of service to other people. I fell in love with the way something such as fitness could completely alter a persons mindset and alter their day for the better. The biggest lesson I learned with this internship was not only do I belong in the fitness business but I even more so belong in the business of people. Being of service, helping them reach their goals and accomplish things they never knew they could. it brings my so much fulfillment to do what I do everyday and if I hadn’t done my internship and changed my perspective who knows where I’d be.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a fitness professional/Crossfit coach and fitness influencer. I create programs to help individuals reach their fitness and wellness goals through exercise and mindfulness with my business BrickBuilt Strength.
I specialize in my creative yet simplistic approach to training the body and finding ways to meet people where they are at and take them to their next level. Whether you are trying to compete, simply maximize day-to-day function, or you are just someone that wants to feel and look great day in and day out, I believe I can help you.
I am most proud of the relationships I have built and the influence I have had on the people I’ve been in contact with. Seeing someone accomplish something they never thought they could do or change their lifestyle for the better has made me so fulfilled. I think the biggest thing that sets me apart is my authenticity.
Being authentic and sticking to my principle’s has allowed me to reach and relate to so many people
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Reps! By far it is repetition with everything you do. Whether you are someone who is just starting or have been in the game for awhile, you’re never too good for reps. The most successful people in my field have all had set backs, adjustments and a ton of failures. The biggest take away I have gotten from them is to keep doing the reps and eventually you will succeed.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I do feel your reputation is something you always have to groom but for me its been being consistent and dependable. I have always tried to strive in those two areas because that is how you build trust with people.
