Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dominique Christina . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dominique , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
As a personal who always spoke her mind and left a positive word with almost everyone I came across. I knew I always wanted to help people whether is was my career, gave advice to my friends, or just be a listening ear for those who maybe going through a rough patch in this thing we all call life. So me being a counselor allowed me to show compassion and meet individuals where they are, but then I knew I wanted to reach others and that when I decide to start my own podcast. #PhukinLyfePodcast. At first I was extremely nervous and wasn’t show I even wanted to hear myself talk and at first planning episodes made me feel like it was forced. So a lot of times I just speak from the heart and just pray that I can help Atleast one person with my words and that’s how I get through to my clients. I’m proud of myself and my client even if they make progress that doesn’t seem big to others it makes me feel proud. So I felt my podcast and my career gives me the joy to help and inspire on a personal level and professional level. To anyone who wants to start there own business, podcast, or become a therapist. I say just go for it because someone may need your story to survive.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Dominique Christina and I was born in Brooklyn, NY. I am a therapist for children who have suffered from Trauma and Grief and loss. I always wanted to work with children. I actually wanted to be a lawyer and reopen cases for child murder cases. My most proudest moment have to be when my clients are successful. I am just honored to be apart of the success for my Clients.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn listening to others of them telling me what’s best for me when I know whole heartedly what’s best for me. I took that advice my senior year while choosing colleges and listening to someone who I really loved and respected and them telling me “That’s career don’t make no money” and for years I was miserable and I told myself I would never put my children in this position. So now I learn to find the answers from within.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
If I could go back I would probably still find ways to help people just in another form of my talents. I loved fashion, beauty, and creative writing. I might not have been a therapist but I definitely would of still been a humanitarian.
