We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dominiece Regis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dominiece below.
Dominiece, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Hmm…somewhere around Summer 2022. At that time my husband, Chad and I had already been traveling together for 10 years, which had been since college undergrad. We had already traveled to quite a few countries, tried a vast variety of different restaurants, and had implemented a weekly date nights in New York City, which is where we currently live. During all of these experiences, I had always captured them through photo and video and would shared them on social media for fun. Over time, I began to realize my audience was engaged and interested in the things that I shared. Mainly, because I was constantly posting recommendations and ideas for things they could also do, experience, or try themselves. Before Covid, I treated our weekly NYC date nights almost like a reality show thru IG stories. That was fun! Thus, my audience began to trust my voice and opinions within the travel space and the New York City scene, all the while receiving quality content. A double win.
But it wasn’t until Summer 2022, I realized for myself I had something to offer to the social media landscape beyond just nice photo ops and a few tips and tricks. I had true world knowledge and experience that many haven’t yet lived … kinda like when you realize that everything you know isn’t so common. Or when you find out something that’s so easy for you, someone else doesn’t even know where to begin..yea it was that “epiphany”, If you will. Researching into content creation, I began to see how I could further educate and inspire individuals who may want to do, visit, and experience some of the things that I was able to. I also started to understand how content creation was an avenue I could take to work with brands and companies who align with my lifestyle, while simultaneously creating content that will speak to the brand’s audience and customer base.
At the time, I did not know much about “The Creative ” as a career path, as I have a Master in Finance and work as an accountant- it’s almost complete opposites…haha! Nonetheless, I finally saw a path that made sense for me as a creative and I decided to go for it!
Dominiece, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
After years of traveling with my husband, I started sharing our experiences on social media, like where we were going, things we were doing and life moments. Eventually, my content expanded to include on family-friendly destinations and insider tips for navigating traveling with a child and exploring cities like New York, where we live. I quickly became the go-to person within my community to offer travel tips, NYC recommendations, family travel insights with a toddler, and personal style inspiration. As an influencer, I aim to help women and families embrace adventure with a little style, showing how you can travel the world and live life to the fullest—even with little ones in tow. My platform is all about inspiring others to live in the best way they can through travel and experiences and look good doing it. I’m most proud of the engaged community I’m actively building. A community of travelers who trust my insights and love the unique experiences I curate on my socials.
As a content creator for travel brands- like hotels, resort, luggage companies, restaurants, city experiences – My goal is to to help brands to further reach an audience who align with their mission and value authenticity, luxury, family life, and real connections. I want to build trusting and lasting partnerships with brands that stand the test of time and trends… may we both continue to come back to each other project after project.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Ha. I’m a toddler boy mom, I currently still have a 9-5 , I have a husband , I create content for brands and also my own social media… yea, I think I’m resilient. “HOW?”one might wonder. I do it in between bath time, I steal moments after cleaning up the house (Thank God the husband cooks), plan content when taking breaks from crunching numbers at work, I edit in between our social engagements, working out, and in between soccer practice on the weekends. Need I say more? HAHAH. It does take little bit of discipline, a little organization , and a little sprinkle of delulu!
However, you have to be resilient to even enter into the landscape of social media and content creation. Reslient to the low tides in egengament, or when the video you thought was gonna be a banger flops, or when you receive that temporary rejection email from the b rand youve been dying to work with (see what I did there), you still have to come back and show up… and hopefully be better than the last time. So I guess my commitment to continue to show up no matter what, is also my illustration of resilience .
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I don’t know if people realize how vast the Social Media and Influencing industry actually is. I have learned so much since deciding to enter into this world. There are so many different ways to monetize yourself, your life, your brand. I also think people fail to understand how much work that is involved in influencing and content creation, or even that those two things are different. This industry is so much larger than pretty photo, quick trends and pure vanity — I mean it definitely has all that too. There are emails, meetings, editing, planning, research and organizing all involved… not to mention to be consistent and juggle all things, while having a life. Thats probably my personal biggest struggle…keeping up with everything that is necessary to be successful It is definitely possible because many have done it before me, so I know as I continue to grow and gain experience, I will find the groove that will work best for me and my aspiration.
There is also the struggle of putting yourself out there into the world (yes, the world) and the fear of being perceived, while actively always needing to pivot and try new things in front of the eyes of others. Because seasons and trends are swiftly changing, you’re constantly having to figure out what works you, what works for your audience, and what works the brands. You have to maintain you relevancy, while also staying true and authentic to yourself and brand. Again, its all possible, but it’s definitely a struggle when you’re starting your creative career as an influencer and content creator.
