We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dominick Mozee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Dominick thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you have an agent or someone (or a team) that helps you secure opportunities and compensation for your creative work? How did you meet you, why did you decide to work with them, why do you think they decided to work with you?
I remember my first big agent, it was Karim Muhammad over at The Polygon Group in Burbank. If anyone remembers Doc McStuffins, she was voiced by Kiara Muhammad, his daughter. I just remember submitting my headshot and resume and booking an interview with them. I came in, did my monologue and the rest is history. They’re the ones who kept me in Nickelodeon’s casting office and eventually got me on iCarly.
Dominick, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Dominick Mozee, I’m a BIPOC LGBT actor from Los Angeles, and I’ve always known what I wanted to do for as long as I could remember. I would leave a movie theater and think to myself, one day I’m going to make it on screen.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My resilience has definitely been tested as I’ve journeyed along this industry. From making the decision to quit, starting up again, then quitting again, to now pursuing again. I’ve been learning the major life-lesson of following your heart and having faith that you’ll be okay.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Invite new ideas to the table. A lot of us are tired of seeing and hearing the same things.
