We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dominic Stephen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Dominic thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Success is a constant game of taking risk. How myself & 90% of people growing up the people around them never really took any risk. It was always stay in school, go to college for 4-8 years and get a “stable” job then retire when you’re 60 from your 401k. But I really opened my eyes and looked around me and saw that none of these people doing that were successful. Yeah they might be doing just okay with a J.O.B (Just Over Broke) but none of them drove the car they really wanted, could take trips at anytime, had the house they really wanted, still complained about their job and still had a negative mindset towards money. That’s when it clicked in my head school was a scam, 9-5 was a scam and all of this was a matrix. I had to escape. This is when I dropped out and started reselling clothes and starting dropshipping stores in my teens. Now there was ALOT of failures but also a lot of wins. This is when my journey of taking risks and going towards my purpose started. It took years for the hard work to pay off and come back but God rewards you when you step out on faith from the visions he gives you and I’m so glad I did. Fear is an illusion in your mind from the enemy that will have you scared to take that risk that’s why most people stay the same. You have to break that terror barrier and just GO. Now I live a life of freedom from taking that first risk. Faith over fear.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
When I was young about 16-17 I always used to draw in my sketchbooks. One day I just started drawing clothing designs and logos on it that’s when Shexo really started. A few years pass and I’m 23 in Atlanta down bad going through a rough period financially and mentally. I forgot I had that same sketchbook in my bag and I see all these drawings when I was 17 and just get instantly inspired. I started sketching and bringing the brand back to life. It’s funny how the universe will put you in a terrible situation where you have nothing but you and your thoughts to really bring out your purpose. My goal is to conquer the streetwear industry but not only that expand into real estate and build luxury energy sustainable communities for the less fortunate. I feel like everybody should live a life of luxury and get out of the poverty mindset & your environment is one of the biggest influences of that. It’s a lot of things in store for Shexo Worldwide and my music career as well but I’ll let the results speak I feel like I’ve said enough.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Think & Grow rich helped me tremendously. That was the first book I read when I had a spiritual awakening and really shifted my perspective on how money and business works. The other 2 books are The Secret Law of Attraction and Neville Goddards Law of Assumption. Once I started implementing these laws which were really there the whole time but I had no awareness of my life changed drastically. I really had to take awareness to these laws because they were always happening to me at all times and use them for what I really desired out of life. The two most important lessons I learned is that you need to think about what you do what over what you don’t want because your thoughts shape your reality & that feeling you already have those visions you desire is how you manifest it into the physical. Needless to say I’ve had some miraculous things happen to me over the past few years from seeing my vision boards manifest to thinking about things and having them happen in a split second right before my eyes.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
There are times in life when it doesn’t matter how hard you hustle, how many books you read, how many clients you reach out to things will just not work. The money will be at a standstill, friends and family will be gone, it will be no one around you and you will feel like you’re isolated from the world. No one will understand. And it’s a good thing that they don’t. I had to learn this happens because God has to take everything away from you sometimes to build you up. That’s why you see so many famous celebrities success stories of them being homeless for years, nobody believing in their vision & being treated like an outcast. It’s all for the greater good to build your resilience, strength and most importantly faith in your vision. You could apply for 1000 jobs but none of them accept you not because you’re under qualified but the universe needs you to be alone so you can hear God’s voice to tap into your purpose, learn certain lessons and build your character. People around you won’t understand you. You will get called all kinds of names, shunned, get treated like the villain but you have to pay it no mind and keep pushing. You have to take that step back sometimes to take a quantum leap forward. Remember it’s all working out in your favor.
