We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Domanique Keegan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Domanique, thanks for joining us today. Any advice for creating a more inclusive workplace?
Despite having the skills and experience to lead, I’ve often seen artists who are truly capable of working on all skin tones and hair textures passed over—not because of talent, but because of personal relationships or because someone more familiar (but less inclusive) was chosen.
The truth is, for any beauty project—especially weddings and editorial work—to be fully successful, artists who understand and can cater to every shade and texture should be prioritized. Representation matters, and clients deserve to feel confident that their entire party will be taken care of with the same level of excellence.
That’s why I make it clear: I do it all. Every tone, every curl pattern, every texture. I urge upcoming or even seasoned artists to ensure they know their hair and skin so you too, can be inclusive!

Domanique, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi everyone! I’m Domanique, a Charleston-based hair and makeup artist with 8+ years of experience, specializing in bridal beauty and soft glam. I actually started out in dentistry before following my true passion—helping people feel seen, confident, and beautiful through intentional artistry.
I’ve been honored to have my work published over 20 times including, Vogue and Vogue Italia, but what truly fuels me is connecting with my clients and bringing their vision to life—especially for weddings and milestone moments. I work with all skin tones and hair textures, and pride myself on creating an inclusive, welcoming experience for everyone.
What sets me apart is my attention to detail, calm energy, and commitment to excellence. Whether it’s your wedding day or your first makeup lesson, I’m here to make you feel like the best version of yourself.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media by showing up consistently, being myself, and sharing the kind of beauty work I wanted to be known for. Early on, I focused on posting behind-the-scenes moments, client transformations, and helpful tips—not just the final look. Over time, people connected with my style, my personality, and the trust I built through showing real results on real people.
My biggest advice for anyone just starting: Don’t wait for it to be perfect. Share your work, your journey, and your voice. Be intentional, be consistent, and most importantly—be authentic. People are drawn to confidence and connection, not just pretty pictures. And don’t be afraid to engage with your audience. It’s not just about numbers—it’s about building relationships that last.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being an artist is the emotional transformation that happens alongside the physical one. It’s not just about applying makeup or styling hair—it’s about helping someone see themselves in a way that feels powerful, radiant, and true.
Whether I’m working with a bride on the most important day of her life or guiding a client through a 1-on-1 makeup lesson, those quiet moments of confidence and joy are everything. Knowing that I’ve helped someone feel seen, celebrated, and beautiful in their own skin—that’s what makes this work so fulfilling.
It’s more than a service; it’s a connection, and I feel incredibly honored to be a part of those moments.
