Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dom Chronicles. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dom , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
It all started with faith and being ok with leaping into the unknown. Being an artist where I’m from (Kansas City) really wasn’t an option but there was always something calling me to go this route. I was about to get my student aid cut because I wasn’t meeting the requirements and I before they did I took extra unsubsidized loans and bought my first recording set up and from then on I became Dom Chronicles.
At first there was no income and no scene were I was from, but me and a few others took it upon ourselves to further lay the foundation of our music scene to give ourselves and others opportunity. I’ve always been a musician, being a violinist and choir kid growing up, so I just decided to take it a little further. First it was rap and production, doing local shows and going on tours around the country making little to no money. I was on a indie label for awhile, it didn’t work out but I learned alot. Eventually I had to essentially be my own manager doing everything from booking myself, designing my own merchandise, selling it, putting my own teams together and managing my own roll-outs when it came to my music.
Then came DJing and putting together events in an effort to pull the community together. At this point I do all of those things simultaneously which for some can be energetically taxing. Really getting in the water and learning everything first hand was the focus for a long time. Thankfully with years of experience I can apply it to my own endeavors which have become successful, of course with a long way to go.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Dom Chronicles. I am a musician/artist, DJ/producer, and curator based in Kansas City, MO. I play a few different instruments and I’ve always been passionate about the music space since I was a young violinist and choir kid. Where I’m from it’s safe to say you have to do a little bit of everything to be successful so I had to adjust and pivot when necessary which is how I’ve honed in on learning different skillsets from being the artist to managing creative projects, other artists, and events locally and abroad, and even curating my own immersive merchandise that resonates with my brand, like incense holders and seasoning/spice. I got into my industry because music has always been a big part of my life and I felt like it was my calling so I always naturally stuck with things that revolved around it.
Over the years I have been blessed to tour independently as an artist, get some placements ( most recently a song on the show Bel-Air ), collaborated with artists from around the world, and also create multiple experiences that have created new waves in my city. I have a event/production brand called More Than Friends which is my main project right now. We have thrown several sold out events in my city and are gradually moving into other major US cities. So far we have also had events in Los Angeles and recently had a sold out show in New York. We have worked with DJ’s and artists of all calibers such as Nina Sky, Olea (Soulection), Angel & Dren, and more.
What sets me apart is quality. Whenever I drop music, DJ, or put together an event you can guarantee that it is something that you will remember. When I put together a team for anything I do I make sure everyone has the same goals in mind so that we can create experiences that can stand the test of time whether it is something you see, hear, or feel.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
At first like I talked about before, to get my first studio set up I took out extra school loans before I dropped out. But besides that I have always funded my own endeavors. Whether it was working a 9-5 with a second job for stints of time or saving money from performing and selling merchandise. I have never had an investor of any sorts besides myself, which can be hard at some points but by the grace of God I always push through. Now I can fully support myself off of music to a degree, there is still a lot of learning and growth to be had. The road is long but if you are truly invested and are always working to get better at your craft there will always be new opportunities that arise to gain capital because people will notice.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission has always been to bring light, awareness, and higher vibration to anyone I come in contact with on my journey to raise the frequency here in this space. It sounds really deep but I believe that as a creative that truly makes art, you are a vessel, and you are of service to the world. It’s a selfish but also selfless journey and you ultimately get out of it what you put into it. I strive to prove that it is possible by being an example. Through my music and everything else I do, I truly want to just inspire people to strive to be the best versions of themselves,
