We were lucky to catch up with Dolphia Arnstein recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dolphia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Since 2020, I have worked with 200+ clients and 300+ projects. In a way, they all are special to me because they taught me something new every time. That said, winning the Sony Alpha Female Grant in 2020 was the most meaningful project I have worked on.
Sony Alpha Female gave me the grant to publish an eBook on Bengali Desserts Recipe.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Dolphia, a Boston-based photographer, videographer, and professional UX designer for the US government.
My dad used to own an old film camera, and I tried to use it whenever possible. Of course, my parents were worried about me dropping off that camera, but that never happened. I purchased my first camera in 2012 with my first salary. Food photography started after moving to Boston, and the blog soon got married to Matthew. I started stock photography in 2015 and have been creating content for many clients since 2020.
For me, photography and videography are my escape from daily problems. It helps me to express myself and, more so, build a community where I can share my views freely. As I live and breathe User Experience, I understand brand guides and marketing philosophy and leverage them to create content. I research trends and try to use them in ‘dolphia’ way.
My work is influenced by films, dutch masters, and renaissance painters. More so, I am unpredictable! I don’t stick to norms, rules, and guidelines.
About my tribe – they either love me or hate me. There is no gray zone for me. I am fortunate to have 75,000+ who look forward to my mysterious and whimsical thoughts expressed in a creative way.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Instagram and Social Media were a lot about photos before the 2020 Tiktok era. Once we were in a pandemic and were stuck in our homes, most (including me) started preferring short videos over photos. I had to learn videography, and now I enjoy them over photos.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Expressing your emotions through art.
