Hi Dolly, thanks for joining us today. So, what do you think about family businesses? Would you want your children or other family members to one day join your business?
I wanted to share with you my thoughts on family businesses and some of the insights I have gained from my own experiences and observations.
Family businesses have their unique set of advantages and challenges. On the one hand, working together as a family can foster strong bonds, trust, and a shared sense of purpose. There is a level of familiarity, loyalty, and commitment that often exists within family members, which can contribute to a harmonious and cohesive work environment. Family values and traditions can also be deeply ingrained in the business, creating a strong sense of identity and purpose.
Furthermore, family businesses often possess a long-term perspective, focusing on generational wealth and legacy. This can result in decisions that prioritize the sustainability and longevity of the business, fostering a strong commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
However, family businesses are not without their pitfalls. The blending of personal and professional dynamics can sometimes create challenges. Conflicts arising from family relationships can spill over into the business, leading to disagreements, power struggles, and strained relationships. It can be difficult to separate family roles from professional roles, potentially hindering effective communication and decision-making processes. Balancing the needs and expectations of family members can also be a delicate task.
As for my own perspective, I would be thrilled to have my children join our family business if they show interest and passion for it. I believe that working together as a family can strengthen our bond, create a shared sense of purpose, and provide a platform for growth and development. However, I also value their individual aspirations and would fully support them if they choose to pursue their own entrepreneurial endeavors. It is important for them to have the freedom to explore their own passions and carve their own paths in life.
Throughout my journey, I have witnessed both success stories and challenges within family businesses. I have seen the tremendous rewards that come from a united family working towards a common goal, leveraging each other’s strengths, and supporting one another. However, I have also observed instances where conflicts and unresolved issues have strained relationships and hindered business growth.
These experiences have shaped my view on family businesses and highlighted the importance of open communication, clear roles and responsibilities, and a strong commitment to mutual respect and understanding. It is crucial to establish boundaries and mechanisms for conflict resolution to ensure a healthy work environment and maintain family harmony.

One of the key aspects of this strategy is embracing and accepting “NOs” as part of the journey. In the real estate industry, it is common to encounter rejection or objections from potential clients. Instead of being discouraged by these setbacks, I use them as opportunities for growth and learning.
By maintaining a forward-moving mindset, I continue to take action and seek out new opportunities. I understand that success is built on consistent effort and a willingness to step outside of my comfort zone. This means being comfortable with being uncomfortable and embracing challenges as opportunities for growth.
In addition, providing exceptional customer service and building strong relationships with my existing clients has been instrumental in growing my clientele. Satisfied clients are more likely to refer me to their friends, family, and colleagues, which leads to new business opportunities.
