We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dolly Ave. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dolly below.
Alright, Dolly thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I suppose I always knew. Art consumed me as a child. However I don’t think one needs to necessarily “pursue” a career artistically. I just happened to choose to lead an artistic life. There is art even in the mundane. It can be in the way that you cook, soak in the world when traveling, or handling the plants. To me at least it’s simply a world of expression.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Music fell into my lap accidentally. I started out photographing musicians. It was overwhelmingly fun being a fly on the wall in the studio, on stage, behind the scenes, and apart of the final production on set. I did sing and write songs to express myself, but it was more out of necessity than really any desire to share it. My friends ended up convincing me to release it and one thing lead to another and here I am fully embracing it.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I believe artists should be paid fairly and on time as any other field. Art is sadly not valued enough.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I honestly wish I could say. I’ve accepted that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life and I’ll continue to nurture it until my journey tells me otherwise. I think it’s great that most people have a certain end goal. For me it’s really just about seeing how far I can challenge myself, but I’m not too attached about the outcome.
