Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dogs For Senate. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Dogs, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?

Starting an indie band today is a lot like starting a business. Whether it’s website design, merch design, promoting for playlists, creating content for social media, or making connections for shows, a lot of time and effort goes into the “business side” of owning a band. When we started Dogs for Senate in 2022, our biggest priority was creating quality music that we enjoyed making and playing, but over time, we have needed to also focus on creating an image that would showcase our professionalism in addition to our musicianship. While most of what we have learned throughout the years has been through the collaboration of both of our musical and professional experiences, a lot of trial and error has been necessary to get us to where we are now, and we believe that every experience that we have run into has been of benefit to us.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Dogs For Senate is an indie band based out of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex with the goal of making music that creates a sense of excitement, nostalgia, and comfort for our listeners. We have tailored our writing process to ensure that each song comes to us as naturally as possible. This has allowed our recordings, creative content on social media, and our live shows to resonate with our listeners over the last year and a half, helping us to build a strong connection with our fans.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

When we started Dogs For Senate in 2022, one of our biggest priorities was to create music that was enjoyable to play and to listen to. It has been incredibly rewarding to create music that we love, and to create a fanbase that appreciates the hard work that we put into our music.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?

Many of today’s music streaming services don’t allow artists to earn a realistic pay for their work, so supporting artists directly allows them to create for their audiences more consistently and be compensated accordingly for their work. For our band, the best ways to support us are to buy our music on Bandcamp, support us through our Patreon, buy merch directly from our website (dogsforsenate.com/store), and come to our live shows!
