We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful D’Laurea Trice. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with D’Laurea below.
Hi D’Laurea, thanks for joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
Prolific People mentoring program started as a thought in my college dorm room. Little did I know, it would be taking me into some MAJOR rooms in less than a year. Some of the main steps that allowed me to launch my business was constantly noting things that I wanted to see in my business and things that I wanted to offer in my program. I remember staying up to 5 o’clock in the morning just writing out ideas and activities that we would do. Any free time that I had I would dedicate it to planning for Prolific People. I really felt the purpose and mission of Prolific People in my heart and that’s what kept me going. Although I had all these ideas and notes written, I sat with them for about a month or two. After sitting with that, I finally had a logo made, made Instagram and Facebook accounts, and so forth. I had to figure out how I wanted my business to be represented in more aspects of one. I was making sure that the content I was posting on the pages were relevant and true to our mission, I had to specifically find mentors that aligned with the program, and most importantly recruit mentees. Now, as you know, there’s always more to do, but those were the things that I focused on most, while trying to launch my business. As far as actually launching my business, it was very abrupt. There was no set launch day or anything in that nature. I just did it when it felt right. I expressed the launch via our social media pages and Prolific People instantly received so much love!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a 20 year old college student that just so happens to also be an entrepreneur. I am the founder of a very successful and impactful mentoring program named Prolific People! I created Prolific People because I saw the need of experience, community, and encouragement for youth. I made it my mission to be involved in guiding, supporting and teaching youth because of it. I was aware of the need and was also aware of the aid that was needed to put all those things in action. That’s something that I think sets not only me, but Prolific People apart from others. The way we handle those things is just so intentional that there’s no other option, than positive impact. I am very proud that Prolific People is so impactful, but what I’m even more proud of is that it is a space and outlet for youth in so many communities. I teach and mentor over 80 students a week and to be a part of their village and growth is what is most important to me. The main thing I want people to know about Prolific People is that we are changing lives with one mentee at a time. Prolific People has something to offer every student, mentee, and community. We’re just getting started and the future is already so bright.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Being a business owner, you have to pivot a lot. That was something that I had to learn very quickly when I started my business. I always tell people being at full-time student and a full-time entrepreneur is not for the weak. I had to re-learn the importance of prioritization and consistency because it now has a new meaning to me. Learning that, I also learned the importance of time and boundaries. When I started my business, it was kinda like I started a whole new life because so much changed. I went from having time to go shopping ,hanging with my friends, and all the other young adult fun to then all of a sudden no longer doing that because I have a meeting at 8 AM meeting next morning, a 4 page paper due, a test, and so forth. I gave up a lot, but I gained so much more. Pivoting allowed me to gain perspective on so many things and it was definitely necessary for me to learn them when I did.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Social media had a lot to do with building my reputation within my market. Along with that, overall “word of mouth” had a huge role in building my reputation. With so many people sharing Prolific People’s content on Social Media it spread so fast and created a lot of buzz. However, with people discussing me and Prolific People it helped promote the program and helped the program recruit an assortment of mentors and mentees. Also, it helped the community get more involved and proactive with Prolific People.
