We recently connected with Djenane Douglas and have shared our conversation below.
Djenane, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
May 16, 2021, amid the pandemic-my business partner and I launched Blush Decor LLP. We were unsure what starting a decor business would look like but, we decided to take a chance and in no time, we were booked. One of the first events was a 70th Birthday party. Though it was an outdoor event, the client was concerned due to rising covid numbers. She expressed the importance in making sure that her mother felt safe, loved, and celebrated. We were able to pull the event off with her budget, followed covid guidelines and managed to add some beautiful items as bonuses. Every business owner operates differently, and I respect everyone’s views but, sometimes you must give a little to get a lot. I say that to say, “the little “that was given has opened doors. The business has gained a returning client which to date has booked multiple events.
Djenane, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Djenane Douglas. I’m from Brooklyn, New York and currently residing in Charlotte, NC. I’m happily married to my biggest supporter Dwayne Douglas. We have 2 intelligent and beautiful daughters; Kendal Brielle 14 and Kennedy Blaire 7.
I have always enjoyed planning and decorating for family, and friends. So much that., I planned my wedding 18 years ago. The planning part is solely for my family but, business wise, I’m a tablescape and florals type of girl.
My attention to detail, transparency, and personality sets me apart. It can take time to gain a clients trust but, understanding their décor need is key. Having the ability to deliver your absolute best, and seeing their genuine reaction makes it all worth it.
In the world of business, I’m most proud of overcoming challenges, finding solutions for the clients, and giving back.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Social Media is a need but, the best source of new clients for me thus far have been referrals and networking.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I’m always genuine, and I think people have grown to appreciate that, especially in a market where any form of décor can feel oversaturated. Instead of trying to compete and compare, I support, collaborate, and treat everyone with the same respect that I demand.
