We recently connected with DJ (Winfrid) Webb and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, DJ (Winfrid) thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Have you ever seen (or implemented) a really awesome way to show a client you appreciate them.
To show my clients how much I appreciate them for using my DJ Services, I sometimes include complimentary services. For example, if the facility they’re using has a projection screen or monitors in the space being used, I will ask if a picture/video slideshow or karaoke would be a nice addition. If so, I will compose the picture slideshow at no additional cost to them so that it adds some extra presentation to the event. Also, adding karaoke is just as easy because the screen and projector are already in place. Karaoke is always a big hit depending on the type of event it is…that’s at least a $400.00 saving. Another thing I do for repeat clients is waive fees such as outdoor equipment charges if they’re having an outdoor event. Depending on the repeat history, with some clients I will even discount the event a few hundred dollars.
DJ (Winfrid), love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am the owner and operator of Webb’s DJ Services. My company is something that I put my heart and soul behind. My goal for each client and event is to provide not only the best customer service, but top shelf hospitality. I provide music for any event and all genres of music – outdoor events, church-related functions, corporate gatherings, school programs, weddings, and sporting events. I even mix music videos for clients who want to see the music on video projector screens and monitors. I’ve been DJing for over thirty years and running my own company since the year 2000 as a full time DJ.
I’m known for my wide variety of music and services, but my specialty would be weddings and corporate events because of my organizational skills and equipment inventory. I’m most proud of my ability to stay in business for over 20 years as a full-time mobile DJ and the many business contacts and friendships I’ve developed through events. What sets me apart from other DJs is my attention to detail and focus on hospitality. I’m such a people person so that alone makes new clients comfortable, which helps during their decision making process of choosing a DJ for their events. From time to time, I’ve even saved a few events with my troubleshooting skills. I’m a little gadget geek so if a client or facility is having a hard time with a wireless item, I keep items on hand just in case they’re needed. For example…. A client was doing a video presentation from his laptop and the cable that the facility provided wasn’t working. I was able to use my wireless video device to get his laptop connected quickly to their projector. My availability and flexibility as a full time DJ allows me to do charity work also. I’ve worked with blood drives, healthcare fundraisers, and children’s foundations over the years.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
To build a great reputation, I have worked as a preferred vendor for a ton of different hotels and event facilities for the past 20 years throughout the United States. Being available to meet with potential clients before their event dates and providing high quality services to meet their event needs is what maintains these business relationships, which builds my reputation. Also being able to provide different services and genres of music for the various types of events needed at the facilities helps a lot. My response time on emails and phone calls is also very important, as getting back to client questions in a timely manner is critical to their event success. When the event is over and the client contacts the facility stating that they were very satisfied with my DJ services and thank them for recommending me, this fosters my great relationship with the facility and keeps the cycle repeating.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Doing youth events has been one of my most successful ways of staying busy. Partnerships with schools and sports programs is something that I highly recommend. For example, offering discounted rates for school sporting events in exchange for advertisement on their websites and recreation areas has led to more clients. I’ve booked lots of weddings, corporate events, and family reunions from inquiring clients and event planners who have seen these ads.
