We were lucky to catch up with Dj Thouwow recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dj , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Every Calculated move is a risk. No matter how thought out it is, But for me I find the most rewards in life came from taking a risk. Whether it’s a person , an idea , a business, or a a new job opportunity. I feel like my belief system is so strong, not only in confidence but in my own abilities it just makes the risk, less of a risk, and more of a task that with long enough effort can be obtained. I took a risk learning how to record myself, having to think about the embarrassment I would face from my peers. I took a risk to learn how to make beats , not knowing how long it could take to actually become decent at it. I took a risk at Djing even when I thought I wouldn’t be accepted amongst other dj’s because they would see me as just a “beat maker”. And after all the doubts and all the setbacks . I still emerged and became one of the most notable musicians in my city. And now operating my own Recording Studio. All from a few calculated risk.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the music at a very early age . Just recording myself rap and learning how to produce. After many years of mastering my craft , I went and interned at a local studio. Did that for about two months and found another local studio and became the lead engineer there. While doing that producing for majority of the Kansas City rap artist like (Mb58 , Slap City , Daduworld , Ray Muney , Marley Young, and several other artist). As well as Djing at local venues/clubs etc. Here recently I Just Launched my Own recording studio with my parter , a good friend of mines. And I’m working on my first studio album with talented artist I’ve worked with from all over the country.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Collaboration is one of the strongest resources.. I feel like it’s almost a given because we all have resources but it’s about how we use them to what extent. Every type of business scale from small to big has done some form of collaboration from research to analytics.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
One of the missions of my drive if to shed light on my city in a fashion that other Art/Media Meccas in the world does. When you think of LA’, Atlanta , New York, Houston they all are melting pots of they’re surrounding places . But they market it all as this one Thing or this place that it holds so much rank. And it comes with the integrity of its people to and I think we’re really starting to embrace that.
