We recently connected with DJ Teo and have shared our conversation below.
DJ, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
My parents did an amazing job of making sure my siblings and I were thankful for the situation we grew up in. To have both parents, grow up in a good environment, and for the most part having fortunate upbringings. My parents growing up had it a little different and quite literally could be the opposite. My father grew up in Vallejo, CA while my mother grew up in San Francisco, CA. Having direct roots to those areas as a kid played a huge part in my early development with my mentality toward life. Alongside, what my parents did an amazing job at was expressing to us how everyone in this world won’t always have your best interests. As young kids, my siblings and I saw it as redundant most of the time. Once I started to mature into a teenager and after high school, specific things they told me in the past started to click.
The best thing my parents did was introducing my siblings and I on timeless music growing up! My music knowledge undoubtedly comes from them and my extended family members. Therefore played a huge role in foreseeing a path within the music industry.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Music has been a part of my life since I was young, but my real involvement began during my freshman year of college. When I relocated to Michigan, it was only natural to host events and throw basement and apartment parties, leaving a lasting impact during my brief stay there. As I transferred to a university in Utah, my passion grew alongside my role as a student-athlete. Right after my football career at Weber State University ended, my bookings and income soared, prompting me to establish an LLC and turn my passion into a business.
Now, I’m expanding my DJing skills internationally any chance I get. While placing music into films, executive producing projects, and founding several companies within the music and entertainment realm. I’m looking to be more than a DJ, and creating impactful outlets within the music industry as a whole.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
During my time after playing college football, I was scrambling to get a job that followed my degree just in case DJing wasn’t able to pan out. As I was looking, somebody I went to business school with told me that the job they were at had an opening. As I applied and went through the hiring process, I was ecstatic that I wouldn’t be broke anymore. Especially since I was not making money while I was a student-athlete.
As soon as checks would come in, I was paying for my essential bills. Next up on the list was investing nearly everything I was earning on equipment, softwares, networking expenses, events, and more.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

I’ve always been committed and will continue to soak up as much information as possible.
