Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to DJ ReRe. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, DJ thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
For me, it was less about a single ‘lightbulb’ moment and more about looking at the facts. I was in Corporate America, I had my Master’s degree and plenty of experience, but I was constantly dealing with layoffs and paychecks that didn’t reflect my worth at all. I wasn’t necessarily bitter; I was just ready to try something different (after much convincing). I knew I wouldn’t ever truly excel in that office environment, so I started looking for a lane where my effort would actually pay off.
That’s when the opportunity to go back to the cruise ships came up. A stranger (who I later found out was a recruiter for cruise ships) reached out and basically told me that if I put my trust in him, he’d make sure I stayed booked on the ships. I’m not going to lie, it was scary to trust someone I didn’t know like that, but I decided to take the leap anyway.
That was almost ten years ago, and it completely changed my life. I got to travel the world and finally get paid what I thought I was worth to do what I love. It really gave me a level of motivation I’d never felt before. It taught me that when you’re in the right environment, you actually want to excel and be a better version of yourself. I’ve been pushing myself to do more and be more ever since.

DJ, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m DJ ReRe, someone who’s always been drawn to the way music moves people. Not just the beat, but the feeling it creates. I didn’t come into this industry through some polished path—I found my way in by showing up for my community, saying yes to opportunities that felt right, and trusting my gut (and my ears).
It started with small, local events and friends’ parties, community gatherings, and DIY spaces, and then I quickly realized I wasn’t just there to play music. I was helping create memories. I was watching people light up, reconnect, and let go—all because the vibe was right. And that’s really where my work lives: in the space between sound and emotion.
Now, I do a mix of things: I’m a DJ, yes, of course, but I’m also an event curator, creative mentor, and community builder. I run REmixed Events, where we don’t just “dj” events—we design experiences that people actually feel. I also founded First Spin DJ Bootcamp to help up-and-coming DJs, especially women and underrepresented creatives, find their confidence and their sound. And then there’s @themixher, which is like my digital love letter to music-loving women, creatives part community, part creative space, part celebration.
What makes me different is that I care deeply about how people feel during and after working with me. I’m not about copy-paste playlists or cookie-cutter events. I listen to the mood and to the message, to the people. Whether it’s a wedding, a brand event, or a coaching session, my goal is always to translate emotion into something tangible. Sound. Vibe. Presence.
I solve what I call the “something’s missing” problem. Maybe the energy’s off, or the message isn’t landing, or someone’s unsure how to step into their creative lane. I help people find that missing piece, through music, mentorship, or just honest connection. For clients, that might look like transforming a basic event into something magnetic. For emerging DJs, it’s that moment when they finally trust their gut on the decks. And for my audience, it’s knowing they don’t have to play small or wait for permission to create.
I’m most proud of the community that’s grown around all of this. It’s not just about what I do—it’s about the energy people take with them when the music stops. I want folks to feel seen, inspired, and connected. If they leave thinking, “That was exactly what I needed,” then I know I did my job.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was thinking that skills alone will take you far. I used to believe that if I just stayed sharp, worked really hard, and mastered my craft, the opportunities would naturally follow. But I quickly realized, that’s not always how it works.
My skills keep me there once i’m in the room, but they’re not always what get you in. Visibility, confidence, community, and how you show up (if I even showed up) matter just as much. I had to stop waiting for people to notice me and start creating my own space, my own opportunities. That lesson changed everything.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission has always been to create spaces, both physical and digital, where people feel seen, celebrated, and connected through music and community. Whether I’m DJing an event, mentoring a new creative, or building the @themixher community, it’s all rooted in the same goal: to shift the energy in a room and help people feel like they belong there.
I want to help change the narrative around who gets to be heard, who gets to take up space, and what creative success can actually look like. For me, it’s never about the music, it’s about the feeling that music creates and the empowerment that comes with being in control of that sound.
That’s what drives everything I do.
