We recently connected with DJ Relly and have shared our conversation below.
DJ , appreciate you joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
As much as I would like to say, I want to be remembered for being one of the top DJs in the Twin Cities, especially in the nightlife. I feel what’s most important to me in my legacy is just being a genuine person and helping as many people as I can. Because when it’s all said and done for me, I would like people to champion the fact that I never crossed anybody or did them wrong, I want my legacy to be built on respect and hard work because that’s what got me into a lot of positions and opportunities I was blessed with, that no amount of money or fame could do.
DJ , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
What I’m most proud of my work is just my dedication to be professional and be able to problem solve to my best ability. Even though somethings are out of my control. I’ll do my best to remedy a situation especially being a DJ. A lot of events are music based in since I am the curator in charge of that very important part I’d like to do my due diligence to make sure it goes smoothly
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I can honestly say what helped me tremendously in the beginning of my career is having my best friend Bizzy introduce me to the nightlife industry in many different ways. Up until his untimely demise in 2016 he did everything he could for me to help me out as a mentor and more like a brother by helping me getting certain positions and meet people that I would continue to have relationships with until this day.
And secondly, I would have to give credit to a fellow DJ friend of mine Sota because he showed me earlier on how to take the craft seriously.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Lesson I had to unlearn very quickly because as most people face when trying to start out, especially in my industry is standing firm on your price. It is a very difficult task in the beginning because you are looking for work and to sustain yourself financially so you find yourself taking any jobs at any price when you are worth more. Luckily, I had to right people in my corner to help me get rid of that way of thinking.
