We were lucky to catch up with DJ JimmyP PERIGNY recently and have shared our conversation below.
DJ JimmyP, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful Project I’ve ever worked on is the creation of my Radio Station, EAGLEradio.PRO on LIVE365 Network. It was originally created as a fundraising tool for RED HISPANA FL, an HIV Agency when funding was cut. I created this to move our medical seminars to radio in the form of Talk Shows and combined those with my DJ skills. Today, 10 yrs later, we have over 2,200 monthly listeners and I have attracted 7 other DJs to supply their mix shows to create a 24/7 FREE radio station that can be heard anywhere there is wifi (computer devices & smart phones). We have amassed over 145,000 listens. We have featured talk shows for Holy Cross Hospital, State of Florida Health Dept, AIDS United, Southern HIV Funding to name a few.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
In Boston, I started back in the 1980’s making cassette tapes for friends and I would travel to NYC to buy records. I became fascinated with The SAINT NYC, which was a planetarium dance club and moved to NYC in 1984. I started DJng at various house parties while maintaining a day job and eventually got involved with AmFar (Elizabeth Taylor’s American Foundation for Aids Research) planning fundraiser parties. I was coaxed to enter a New Talent Search at The Tunnel nightclub where I won top prize and was approached that very night about DJ’ng at the Eagle NYC, a leather bar in the mid 1990s. From there, I got laid off from my day job and the Eagle was closing so I decided to move to Fort Lauderdale, Fl and DJ’d at the Everglades and the Fort Lauderdale Eagle.
In 2004, I co-created Red Hispana Florida and in 2012 I created EAGLEradio.PRO radio producing medical seminars and went 24/7 on the LIVE365 Network with the help of 7 DJs from across the country whom supply music shows along with my own.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Funding to sustain your creative endeavor is what most artists fail at. You have to pay rent and eat.
When Red Hispana Florida had its funding cut, I created another funding source: RADIO. I survived by creating a 501 (c)3 dba as EAGLEradio.PRO and the Talk Shows attracts not only donations but Sponsors of shows and Grants (the chief income producer). These items along with my knowledge and contacts from my HIV education, I forged into company income and I get the satisfaction of maintaining my DJ status of over 25 years.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My entire creative push and mission was the period of the early AIDS Epidemic where hundreds or more people I personally knew died horrible deaths. I thank God everyday that I am Negative and my desire to help prevent others from acquiring HIV is my driving force. Now, I help educate on PrEP and Covid and other Health issues.
