Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to DJ J Fresh. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

DJ J Fresh, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

The Story Behind My Mission Is Rooted From The Early Years Of My Life. Music Has Always Been A Consistent Thing With Me, Especially The Feeling Of Introducing Someone To A New Song, Sound Or Artist. I’ve Always Held My Taste For Music To A High Regard, Probably Because My Family Are Really Big Music Lovers. So I Guess I Always Chased That Nod Of Approval When It Was My Turn To Pick A Song Or Put My IPod On The AUX. As I Got Older I Started To Realize That People Actually Paid Attention To My Opinion When It Came To What Sounds Good. That’s What Drove My Interest To DJing In Middle School, My First Gig Was A Basketball Game & Fell In Love Instantly. But After Around 7th Grade I Stopped & Left The Craft Alone For Years. My Ear For Music Never Died Though. Fast Forward When I Moved To Houston To Go To College I Had A Group Of Friends Who Used To Throw Small Parties & Needed A DJ. Well I Had All The Music On My Laptop So I Volunteered. The Party Was Crazy To Keep It Short, But After That I Had A Lot Of People Tell Me I Should Consider DJing. From There I Went & Bought My First Controller And Was Given A Speaker From A Family Friend. I Continued To Build And Now We’re Here 7 Years Later.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I Want People To Understand The Dedication It Takes To Run A Business Properly, But Also That With Whatever You Do In Life You Need To Love It 100% .I’ve Been DJing For 7 Years & Have Experienced Literally Every Emotion Trying To Progress In My Career. I’ve Been Without, Had To Sleep Couch To Couch At One Point. I’ve Walked With My Equipment, Caught Public Transportation With It. But I’ve Also Been In Rooms That I Would Have Never Imagined Just Off Spinning Records You Have To Go Through It All In Order To Reap The Rewards.

In Regards To My Services, I’m A Club/Tour/ Event DJ. But I Also Have Done A&R Work, Management & Worked As A Media Personality.

What Sets Me Apart From Others Is Me Being Myself. I’ve Never Been The Person Who Follows The Trends. If I See Everybody Doing The Same Thing I’ll Purposely Try My Own Way & Make Sure It’s Top Level. Like My Last Employer Told Me The Day He Fried Me, I’ve Always “Moved At The Beat Of My Own Drum.”

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

I Think Being A Great DJ Naturally Built My Reputation, But Also Being A Stand Up Individual. Each Club Or Event I’m DJing I Make Sure To Not Only Provide A Good Vibe But Also A High Level Of Professionalism. I Think That’s Also A Key Factor In People Doing Business With Me. They Know J Fresh Will Always Get The Job Done.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

I Have Multiple Goals I Intend On Accomplishing Within My Creative Journey, But In The End I Just Want To Be Respected As A Major Influence In Not Only Texas Music But For The South Period. I Want To Be The Person That Helps Build The History & Showcase What We Have To Offer Out Here. We Need To Be Respected Just Like New York Or Los Angeles. I Feel I Have The Knowledge & Can Execute. DJing Is Just The Beginning To Wake Everybody Up.
