Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to DJ J Blacc. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, DJ J thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I personally believe that I started my career at the right time during an early age, but I wish I would’ve been more in tune with my creativity as a DJ. Whether it’s having outside of the box DJ mixes, marketing techniques, and social media promotion.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Born and raised on the North Side of Florence, South Carolina, DJ J Blacc (James Israel) started his musical journey when he was 13 years old in middle school after joining the band, where he was given a musical instrument by his band instructor Mr. Henderson. It was at this moment that DJ J Blacc knew he wanted to be part of the music culture. DJ J Blacc became interested in being a DJ when he watched his older peers perform sets at music festivals, clubs, and events. In 2016 DJ J Blacc made his way into the music industry after working along QC former artist Skippa Da Flippa at the A3C music festival in Atlanta, Georgia. He continued to make a name for himself as a DJ by specializing in independent artist mixtapes . Where he has now accumulated over a 4 million mixtape streams on major music platforms, which helps independent artists grow their fan base and expand their music to various demographics! DJ J Blacc is apart of the thriving marketing company OnDemand Entertainment & OnDemand DJs where he serves as the General Manager for the company. And the CEO of Fresh Muzik Empire. DJ J Blacc has worked with musical artists such as Big Scarr, Big Boogie, Skippa Da Flippa, OG Maco, GShytt, Trina, Toni Romiti, Kevin Gates, and many more!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect from being creative as a DJ is the satisfaction of seeing people smiling and having a good time at an event or show I’m playing. Also by helping independent artist further their career with different techniques that most aren’t used to or haven’t attempted to try..
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I recently moved from South Carolina to Montana and the music scene is totally different that what I’m accustomed to which was Hip-Hop. So once I started getting booked for shows I had to cross over to a different genre of music to appeal the audiences I’m playing for. It took me about 3 months to become comfortable enough to play a different genre of music and to include in my mixes. After my playing my first event in Bozeman, Montana for Grizzly Pine Dispensary customer appreciation day I generated more leads for upcoming shows after customers heard the mixes I perfected with Pop/EDM music.
