We were lucky to catch up with Dj Dontey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dj , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think it takes to be successful?
I personally feel that It takes motivation from with in , faith, and hard work to be successful. Nothing happens over night , as a business owner and dj I’ve learned that without grinding , promoting , and really putting in the work expanding and being successful will be a Challenge. I do feel like everyone can be successful in whatever field they choose to be in rather it be working for a company or for themselves. If you have a passion for something , never let anyone tell you that you can’t do it or make you have doubts about being successful in your career.
Dj , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Dj Dontey, I own Dj Dontey Kustoms and Knight Time Productions. Both companies are based In Georgia.
Dj Dontey Kustoms offers mobile car audio, car lighting, brake services and more. I travel all across Georgia and to other states as well. If you’re ever looking to get a sound system installed or led lights from interior to headlights to underglows I do it all. I also make custom merchandise as well along with decals. Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me would have to be social media and word of mouth. I’ve gained a lot of clients from just having a previous client tell them about my services and business. I appreciate the support I get from everyone and my ability to provide great services that keep clients happy and continues bringing in new clients.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I originally started installing radios and lights back in 2016 as a hobby. When I got my truck I put a sound system and lights on it, which drew alot of attention from people everywhere I went. And I always got asked who installed everything, and when I said that I did myself they asked me to do theirs as well. So I decided to turn it into a full time business and that’s how Dj Dontey Kustoms was created.
I have been djing and producing since 2008, my grandfather used to dj on the radio and that inspired me to be a dj . I started out making mixes for my teachers and for parties . And that turned into djing for school events . Now I get the opportunity to dj all over the world as a career and I am appreciative of all of the clients I have had and that are to come in the future.
