Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to DJ Curley Sue . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
DJ Curley Sue , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
The first seven years of my DJ career I was in the lab. I consistently practiced, there were trials & errors, ups, downs, you name it. In this time period, I had no plan of execution of how I wanted to develop my brand or even how to market. I was young, in high school and transitioned into attending college, to become a doctor. My third year of college, I realized I wasn’t truly living out my dreams, but living through my parents expectations of me. I was honest with myself and knew I wanted to become a full-time and business owner. It was at this moment, that I fully committed myself to developing a legit business plan and purchased my LLC – DJ Curley Sue Entertainment LLC.
I scheduled an appointment with a business advisor and he assisted me with retrieving my LLC, my EIN number, and business license. Once I retrieved these items, it was go-time. This was the push that I needed to fully commit to my dream of being an entrepreneur.
I knew I wanted my brand to be distinguishing from your “typical DJ”. I wanted my brand to be vibrant, energetic and uplifting. I desired for clients and supporters to constantly feel like they had to have the services I was offering. In this process, I developed and created a website where clients and supporters could listen to my DJ mixes and view where my next upcoming shows would be. My goal has always been for my audience to be directed to DJCurleySue.com for every source of my business.
This is where the marketing comes in. Before releasing these mixes, I would heavily promote on social media that I was dropping new mixes on my website to build my clientele. I would give snippets of what songs were in the mixes on social media, giving people some nostalgic feels that they felt they had to have before dropping my new releases. My retention rates increased the more I would drop new mixes to my website and got to a point where supporters started ask, “When are you dropping a new mix”. I used these mixes to identify who was my target audience. I saw that I was attracting a main demographic between the ages of 20 & 40 the more DJ videos I posted and mixes dropped. Once I developed my target audience, I received more clients and notoriety.
My business idea was finally executed. I began to grow my social media presence, became consistently booked and out-sourced my company by hiring contracted DJs for gigs. I knew I wanted my company to be bigger than just “DJ Curley Sue”, so I developed a plan to subcontract DJs under DJ Curley Sue Entertainment and profit passive income. I realized that I am one person and could not possibly DJ at every event that I was offered. I developed a team of DJs that would DJ on the behalf of the company if I was not able to provide the DJ services myself. The idea of helping other DJs grow their business was dope to me because my company is bigger than me and never looked back!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
One of the most effective strategies I’ve used when growing my clientele is having a website, which shows a high level of professionalism. My goal for the company has always been to expand past one specific audience. I use my website to highlight my brand and what my company has to offer in totality. I realized that I attract what I market. DJ Curley Sue Ent. offers more than just one type of service. The company offers DJ Services for weddings, corporate events, private events, festivals and more. I used to the website to display and communicate with my audience that the company is inclusive and eclectic. My audience is able to identify themselves through my marketing on my website. For example, if a client is getting married and looking for their wedding DJ, I’ve made the experience on DJCurleySue.com easy to navigate and understand what exactly they can expect out of hiring my services. I understand that my audience needs to see tangible displays of my previous events. So my website displays previous gigs and clients that I’ve worked with in the past, and a variety of mixes to retain and attract a broader clientele. After providing Dj Services for a client, I collect reviews. Collecting reviews has been a great source for new potential clients to see a creditable opinion about the experience with the services. My clientele has grown drastically through word-of mouth and building meaning relationships. DJ Curley Sue Ent. receives a high rate of referred clients from previous clients. The more that people are raving about the business and their experience with the company, the more they share with their friends, families and their networks – growing your clientele.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Social media has become one of the best sources for new clients. I use a tracking system on my website that shows where a new client lead comes from. The majority of my clients come from social media. I use it for displaying videos of me actually DJing, providing business tips, recap videos of events and to connect with other DJs. The content that I post allows my audience to not only engage with the material, but feel like they have to have the service. What exactly is that service? DJ Curley Sue Ent. provides high-energetic, reliable and professionalism DJ Services. I truly believe clients seek a DJ that knows what their doing and adds a high value to their event. Knowing who my target audience is, I create content that attracts this audience. For example, I may make a mashup DJ video of two songs that make you feel nostalgic and cause you to look deeper into my profile , leading you to my website for bookings and mixes. I post content that attracts more of the gigs that I desire. Newly engaged couples are always looking for DJs for their weddings so I make sure that I post recap reels and videos that highlight why I should be booked for their event. Lastly, I show client reviews from previous clients. New clients want to see if the company is creditable and worth the investment to book for their event.
