We were lucky to catch up with DJ Cori Jaye recently and have shared our conversation below.
DJ Cori, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
As a child I always had an infinity for music. My mother played the violin in her earlier life and always put music to the for front in our lives. Anytime there was a school project that mentioned what we were passionate about, I would always choose music as a topic of discussion. I remember making a cereal box out of old “Right On, Word Up, Jet & Essence magazines for usage on the project. For my senior project in High School I presented a powerpoint that broke down the different generes of Hip Hop. Music has always been an outlet for me to express how I felt in life. I have always been misunderstood by my family members and friends. So continuing to stay hyper focus on what I love to do which is music has definitely served as a great benefit and success in my life.
DJ Cori, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My first introduction to the industry was when I was presented an opportunity by one of my peers in college for an available internship with B.O.E (Major Recording Studio in North Hollywood).
I was able to see how a song would be created, mixed, written too and released all under one recording studio. It was literally like watching many parts of one work of art form into a machine in real time.
I learned to observe my environment, how to conduct myself in a recording studio/venue and most importantly how to communicate with others effectively.
I’ve never stopped creating music and I always make time to practice. I find being more than prepared for any opportunity that grants itself to me, always provides life lessons and great outcomes.
I’m most proud of the resilience I have bestowed over the years. No matter what others have stated towards me, I’ve never let those thoughts discourage my pursuits in this industry.
When I do have the pleasure to provide services for my clients, I always make sure to stay present and calm in every situation. I put my best foot forward, I always represent my skills and I continue to have optimism in every situation.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Even though I lost my mother at 13 yrs old, I never let any hardship prevent me from succeeding in life.
I’ve been through many downfalls, setbacks, and challenges that evidently played as a precedent to my success.
I believe that everyone in life wants to be happy, comfortable and loved. I strive for these attributes every day.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Word of mouth, Promotion, and support are just some topics that can push forward a generation of creatives in the right position.
