We recently connected with DJ Citizen Jane and have shared our conversation below.
DJ Citizen Jane, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
In order to be successful you have to wake up every day with a drive to push forward. No matter how many times you get shut down there is always another day to start over and knock on new doors. You must keep on hustling. Even when you are at the top you must keep on going and striving for more. Be innovative and don’t ever settle. There is always room for improvement and to grow in your craft. You must continue learning and mastering your skill. That drive is what will always keep you going and at the top of your game.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a Singer-Songwriter / International DJ / Fashion Designer. I was born in Miami Beach and raised in Miami. I’m currently working on my debut solo project with multiple renowned producers and collaborating with up and coming female artists. I will be releasing my fourth single “Too Late” from my forthcoming EP.
I grew up with a mix of traditional latin music and influences in classic rock and electronic music. I have a passion for voice melodies, harmonies, percussion and electronic sounds. After traveling the world with my successful DJ career I’ve acquired a fusion of melodic rhythms, latin vibes mixed with percussion along with some sultry vocals adding an electronic touch. I refer to myself as a cultural mix carrying pieces of every country I have visited on my tour and adding it all to my music catalogue. I recently had the opportunity to captivate an even broader audience by being the face of the “Fighting Spirit” Modelo Beer Campaign appearing on their TV Commercial globally. I also got to check off my bucket list a dream and tribute to my Mom. Being able to launch my Fashion designs on the runway
during New York Fashion Week.
And since I can’t stay still and just settle with being on a non-stop music festival tour. I’m currently the Ambassador of the Miami FC Soccer Team. I was the Song Writer and Singer of their Anthem “GOAL” streaming now on all major digital platforms. I always make sure that my gears are in motion and that I keep the momentum going. Idle speed doesn’t exist in my world. My creative juices are always flowing and I’m always ready to jump into the next venture. Stay tuned because there are more great surprises coming…
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
So I was in a Law Enforcement and Investigations career before all of this. But I never left my music. Music has always been a constant in my life. It’s what always fulfilled me and made me happy. It’s just people all around me would always tell me, that’s not really a career, it’s hard to make it out there especially as a woman… You know the whole story… So I decided to get into the other thing I had a passion for. Investigations, putting all the pieces of the puzzle together to solve mysteries… But I just couldn’t let go of the music business. So I continued doing it on the side whenever I could. But then it started getting busier and busier for me. More and more gigs kept on coming. Word of mouth would get out or people would see me and want to book me. Eventually I started getting booked out of town and had to start traveling. That’s when it became a bit much to do both and I had to make a decision. It wasn’t easy because I was taking a gamble and jumping into a world that I had my heart and passion in but wasn’t as stable as the career that I had. Well I finally made the decision and went for it. I soon learned that if I wanted this to be my career I had to work twice as hard. Yes it was harder because I was a woman but also because you need to wake up every day and go after it, hustle and give it your all. There is no room in this business to just sit back and let it come to you. You have to always keep going for more and not stop. The train always has to keep moving. But when you love what you do that drive just comes naturally every day. So here I am today still doing what I love and successful at it. I don’t regret not even for a second of making that decision to take that leap of faith and going for it. I am loving every minute of this journey and I still have so much more to go.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
There have been many times in my journey that I’ve had doors shut on me or have been treated differently because I’m a woman. However I’ve never let that stop me. That’s only given me more power to continue moving forward and showing the world how successful and powerful a woman could be in this industry and any industry. I’ve always believed in equality since I was a little girl. There was always nothing that I couldn’t possibly do if I set my mind, heart and soul to do it. I’ve carried that mentality with me all of my life. This is the example that I always try to set for the this and the future generation of females. Don’t ever let anyone hold you back from achieving whatever it is you want to achieve. If you have the power and drive inside of you, no one can stop you.
