We caught up with the brilliant and insightful DJ CHEF MO a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi DJ CHEF , thanks for joining us today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
My first real job in the field I practice today came shortly after getting my first insurance quote during college. The price was ridiculous, and I knew right then I would never pay that much without understanding the system. I learned the business, sharpened my skills, and turned a personal frustration into a lifelong mission to help others.
Today, I am 33, living in Missouri, but working wherever I am needed across the United States. I hired myself as an independent agent because I believed if people had better options, they would live better lives. I was hungry to grow, hungry to serve, and hungry to make sure poverty was never my portion.
Every step of the way, my faith in Christ anchored me. Looking back, I see how God’s hand shaped the path. Like Proverbs 19:21 says, we make plans, but it is the Lord’s purpose that wins every time.

DJ CHEF , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the industry because I was passionate about helping people. I got licensed, started learning everything I could, and worked as an independent agent. Along the way, I took on odd jobs and built skills most people never learn. I helped people save money, move into homes, fix furniture, work on cars, build computers, and even publish books. I worked with Microsoft and Google on special projects, contracted nationwide, and learned to stay steady whether things were booming or slow.
I am proud of the awards, but the biggest win is my growth in Christ. That is what keeps everything moving forward. When clients come to me, I want them to feel like they have someone they can trust. Real solutions, real help, with no shortcuts and no schemes.
My brand is simple. Push the Good News. Whether it is free books, fitness / nutrition coaching, new Gospel Rap / RnB soundtracks, or daily encouragement, everything points back to giving God glory and helping people grow in life.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Yes, absolutely. Why wouldn’t I? It molded me into who I am today. I trusted in the Lord, and I say this humbly, but I already am who I believed I would become. If I had chosen another path I once aspired to, I would not be where I am now exactly & full of life, peace, love, and ready to share this journey with others.
The way I got here is impossible by human standards. Without Jesus Christ, I would not even be alive. There is only one way to meet Him, and that is the way God allows. He is never far from any of us.
I chose insurance and home health care, and I still work in both industries today, more than fifteen years later. I entered these fields at eighteen. Along the way, I worked in food service, fine dining, hotels like Hilton and Marriott, real estate, property management, and government contracting. I have held roles in inspections, analysis, and other areas that many would call a dream career.
At the end of the day, it is not any job or title that sustains me. It is the Lord who provides. No paycheck could save my life…only Jesus Christ can.
I had opportunities to pursue football, baseball, soccer scholarships, Canadian football, and top-level construction management careers. I had doors open across the country. But God had something bigger for me.
It may not have made sense at the time, but looking back now, I see His perfect strategy. My Lord has a fastball and a curveball ready for any setup the enemy tried to create. God is the true closer, and His plan always wins.
No, I would not change a thing. Even if I had tried, God’s will would have ruled over it all.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met my business partner in a way that could only be described as God’s design. I was working in service and construction, doing nonprofit work on the side, while my main job was at Sprint Wireless, now T-Mobile.
Through a mutual connection I met while serving others, I was introduced to the person who would become my business partner. We shared the same drive, the same creative spark, and the same unshakable faith in bigger things. Some people even called us twins because of how easily we tackled problems together.
When you partner with someone in business, you want to be equally yoked, just like the Bible teaches. It is not about thinking exactly alike; it is about being spiritually aligned to accomplish something greater than yourself.
Meeting while I was serving others reminded me that obedience to God’s path will always bring the right people at the right time. Our story is one of a trillion examples of God’s greatness in my life, and I am forever thankful.
