We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful DJ AyyMello. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rashamell below.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Originally born in Brooklyn, NY, I migrated to Baltimore, MD between 1996-1997. I started having an interest BALTIMORE since I was 10 years old, and began to fully indulge with dancing at 17-18.
I am a member, and also co-founder of Seriously Rated Dance Group (also known as TSR). We are currently the reigning champions of BTD’s “We Run This City” Baltimore Club Dance Group Competition since 2015. We’ve performed at numerous events and are currently taking bookings for performances, video shoots, etc. ([email protected])
As a self-taught producer of Baltimore Club Music, I began to expand my sound by making notable songs as my unofficial remix of K-Stylis’ “Kangaroo Booty”, “Bmore Horns 2017” featuring Thunderbird Juicebox, and “We Don’t Give A (Dark City Version) ft. Mighty Mark, DJ K-Spin, & Mike-Mike ZOME” from the recent documentary on Netflix, called “Dark City: Beneath The Beat” by TT The Artist.
Under the mentoring of, Baltimore Club legend, Michael “Mc Mumblez” Foster and under management of the talent agency Bmore Than Dance, LLC. my career continued to flourish as a Producer, DJ, and Performer. In my rookie year of DJing, I performed at several historical events throughout the city [Artscape (2016-2018), Light City Festival (2017-2018), Red Bull Amaphiko After Party featuring Blaqstarr (2017)] ,amongst numerous others.
After years of involvement with B-More Than Dance, LLC as a competitor in the annual “King of Baltimore Club Music Dance Competition consecutively since 2010, & the countless battles within various events hosted by them, I finally accomplished one of my childhood dreams and won the King of Baltimore 8 championship in 2018. As of 2022, I was inducted into the BTD Hall Of Fame for my years of contribution to our culture, and the work I’ve put in with the agency whose given me all of the opportunities I’ve encountered thus far.
Through opportunities with Jubilee Arts & and Media Rhythm Institute, LLC. I became an instructor, and one of the first Club Dancers in my generation to have full-time employment teaching our dance style within the various communities of the city.
My knowledge of the culture and how I’ve mastered what I do sets me apart from most. My musicality and style of Club Music is definitely what makes me stand out as a Producer. I bring the old and the new to what I’ve grown to know Baltimore Club to always be.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I believe society can be more aware of what’s out there without judgement. I also feel as though people who wants to be involved within our ecosystems should have pure intentions on uplifting the culture, and providing a service that benefits the spread of what we’re trying to cultivate.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My mission is to spread the history of our sound to the world, and to bring the people who all made this possible to the light so they all can be seen and heard. There’s so many stories that needs to be told. There’s so much love and support that needs to be shown to all of us.
