Dj, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
As a child I had big dreams to change the narrative of my family dynamic. Coming up from the Northwest Of Houston was hard. Deprived of opportunities to succeed, Only thing that surround the area was
gun violence, drugs, and gang activity. Rising above the narrative of poverty build a fire in me to want to be better than what my environment consist of. I started playing basketball ball at an early age and played until my 3rd year of college. Short after I was wrongfully kicked out of McMurry University the reasoning, My financial aid and loans were given to another student with only A few semesters to go. I started pursuing music, after being laid off by the pandemic and school not being an option anymore or sports. I took my last check from my former security job and bought Dj equipment.
Dj, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Having to figure things out fast because me not being able to go to school and pursue my career choice, I had to figure things out to live . Meanwhile I was to forced to take all efforts I was putting into being a Student Athlete into my Dj business. Being able to use connections for new endeavors. I’m truly blessed to have certain individuals in my circle that’s helped me create and gave me the space to do what I needed to fulfill my dynasty In music. When clients book Dj4play this isn’t just an exchange of service. We want to give a professional presence and exceptional services. We provide what other competitors won’t, A family bond we won’t more than your money, We want to be your family. We provide Dj services, Party Decor, Photography. We have a Clothing Line called Banned Merch. as well.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Working In the club nightlife was good until the recognition. Being a younger entertainer with lil experience in that circle, in gate keepers eyes wasn’t enough to continue my craft in that environment . Most people in that industry wait years to get their break and it never happens, then hear comes the new school kid breaking records with Houston legends, being a community leader, a role model to the children as well. So I decided to start catering to the people who wanted to hear me Dj, even booking events outside city limits. It’s been the best thing I’ve done considering the market. I’ve embraced Houston.Texas, and the challenges I’ve faced, wouldn’t be a Dj4Play without the struggle I’ve over came. I wanted to be the guy in the club, but life had a different plan for me.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
When people love the music I’m playing and the reactions to different scratches and techniques that’s what I love. After 5 years of hard work I was reward my first letter of recommendation from Alliance Family Network Issued by The Regional Executive of the company Paula Thompson.. The best feeling was knowing I was easing those kids pain and seeing their big smiles after the function was mind blowing when they told me Thank You.!
