We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Disnie Sebastien a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Disnie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I have trained as an Actress and Performer for many years. In 2020, I unexpectedly found my passion and a new avenue in the entertainment industry as a TV Host. This has been a huge focus for me in my creative career. I came across an audition for Amazon Live’s new channel at Top Rated Studio. The emphasis would be on E-commerce and showcasing new Amazon products from Beauty to Home items in a talk show style format. I decided to put my improv training to the test and audition. After multiple successful auditions, I was cast to host the show. The channel gained traction during the pandemic because people could watch the show live from anywhere in the world while staying safely indoors. Fast forward to now, the show has been named, “Sunday Funday With Disnie.” I have done over 400 episodes to date. Each episode is different featuring my sarcasm and fun banter with the Producers. The shows are on every Sunday at 6PM & 8PM EST on www.toprated.live

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
The beautiful thing about life is how it is constantly evolving. I surprise myself everyday. I came from a small island in the Caribbean, Dominica. I was always an introvert who somehow was drawn to a public field like performing. I kept my dreams a secret, but waited for the right time to make my way to New York City on my own at a very young age. There were not many opportunities for acting back home. My introversion drove my passion for the Arts. I self-taught as a child by memorizing scripts from the TV and performing them back to the best audiences, my pets and stuffed animals of course! I was in my own world, but these moments made way for something so much bigger. As an adult, I have become a multifaceted artist with experience in Theater, Film, TV and Commercials. I have gone on to star in Films now featured on Amazon Prime Video, Roku, Sundance Film Festival and more. I look forward to continued success.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
With my focus being on TV thanks to hosting on Amazon Live, I dream of hosting my own talk show somewhere in Hollywood, CA. I do notice quite a few amazing talk shows have ended in recent years and it would be great for the industry to have more young talent like myself. Maybe a late night show, along with my Caribbean flare, the possibilities are endless. Just have to figure out a niche and the target audience!

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
For those not in the Arts, I know it can be a truly foreign concept for them. However, I would like for non-creatives to offer us some grace and show appreciation for the career that we have chosen. We are not Doctors and Lawyers, which are very important fields of course, but just remember the little things. Like that song you listen to that makes you happy, your favorite TV show to watch after a long day or your favorite video game to play with friends. All of these were created through a huge collaboration with other creatives, including those behind the scenes that don’t get any recognition sometimes.
We all work hard and the path to success is not linear for us. Being an Artist also means you are your own independent business. You have to spend money to make money. You have to market yourself and make connections. For me the Actress, that means having the right material to submit to auditions. For example getting headshots to submit to auditions can cost hundreds, but headshots are one of the first things casting directors judge you upon even before meeting you. I believe if you keep investing in yourself, then it should all be worth it in the end. Especially if Art is your true calling!
