We recently connected with Dirk Martre and have shared our conversation below.
Dirk, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Time management, structure & discipline are all key factors in learning or mastering a craft. Reading books, researching different resources & talking to tenured professionals have aided me in my process. Knowing the things I know now, I would’ve been more adamant about removing unnecessary distractions for maximum focus. The only obstacle that stood in my way was myself. You can’t be lazy, doubtful or anything that would produce negative energy. Seeing things from more than just one spectrum & being comfortable with being uncomfortable helped me speed up my processes as I learned that success doesn’t come from contentment.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As I got older, I realized I had more to gain than just being an artist. There were millions of opportunities behind the lens. I wanted to be able to help others learn & figure out the things I didn’t or came around later than expected. As an artist, I understood what other artists go through & could relate to the struggles. I’ve been & currently still in positions with assists to help with artist with development, marketing & promotion, social media management, communication skills, money management & even wardrobe. I was able to create my own multi layer brand “Grindology” which relates to the everyday person chasing whatever success means to them. From this, I produced merch line, a men & women fragrance, designer candles & constantly working on the next venture.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There are many times I’ve reached out for help or information to further my interests. In this industry you will hear the word “no” or even see it without hearing it. It can be discouraging. Whatever it takes, as long as it’s positive, do it! Hone in on your passion, study & find new ways to improve, find new ways to be inspired & networking is a never ending process.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding thing about what I do is providing service & help the best of my ability. Seeing people show their appreciation & love gives me surety about what I do. I know what it’s like to not have support, assistance or even just plain direction on how to go about seeking knowledge & information about the things I wanted to be successful in.
