We recently connected with Dionte Gilmer and have shared our conversation below.
Dionte , appreciate you joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I started during the early days of the pandemic when Las Vegas got shut down. During this time I’ve noticed the lack of intelligent government response and felt like that we the people would be on our own with this one (Covid). So, I started looking for ways alternative ways to maintain that wouldn’t get me put in prison. I wished that I wasn’t but I was late coming to the cryptocurrency party even though I was invited years back when a Bitcoin was only $10 dollars. I began my research about cryptocurrency, nfts, and the metaverse and I needed to figure out how best to use this potential opportunity. Going at it alone, I invested my own money, a little at a time on different crypto coin projects; Cardano, Bitcoin, PI, and a few others.
It was tough trying to understand the crypto market and its volatility but I began to catch on to learn this may have not been a good thing for me to start on but I kept going by just making small moves. With nothing really to do during the pandemic I began to focus on NFTs and the Metaverse and thinking about how many ways to monetize it. Again, doing this alone wasn’t helpful and none of my friends were interested in being involved with crypto, nft or the metaverse. It was very difficult to bounce ideas of the wall instead of people but I manage to come up with The Urban Blockchain to kick of a company that looks to explore this new technology. I took a few classes on Coursera and Udemy to get my book knowledge and watched a lot of you tube videos for practical learning. Luckily I found a platform that I used to create my first NFT.
Dionte , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Born and raised in Detroit, MI, Air Force Veteran
The Urban Blockchain was established in May 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown, which drastically impacted the creative industry. As artists ourselves, we saw firsthand the need for new and innovative ways to monetize art, music, and other creative content in a world where live events and physical experiences were no longer feasible.
Our NFT and Music NFT platforms allow creators to monetize their art, music, and other digital content while also engaging with fans in unique and exciting ways. And our Metaverse solutions offer brands the opportunity to establish a virtual presence in the growing world of virtual reality.
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
The initial capital came from my bank account. Earlier that year of the pandemic I decided to pay more attention to my money and concentrate on wealth building. This led me to get my credit and bank accounts solid and to stop wasteful spending. I was able to have a decent amount saved to start metaling around with crypto.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I became a social media junkie trying to promote what I was doing with NFTs and the Metaverse. I’ve created multiple social media accounts to market and network my company with others. Little that I knew that there were a bunch a people like me out there trying to figure our this space to make it work for us. The networking was incredible but at the same time people were leary of each other, I guess politics at the time played a huge role in the level of distrust in the nation at the time. Through twitter, Facebook, Telegram, and the Metaverse I was able to meet new clients and promote my brand. I worked very hard in marking my brand, retweeting crypto news, engaging to pioneer new platforms, and joining discussion rooms.
