We recently connected with Dionne Rosemond and have shared our conversation below.
Dionne, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share a customer success story with us?
My company offers bookkeeping and financial planning services to small business owners and individuals. The most impact service we offer is our financial planning service. My favorite customer success story is a client who took advantage of our financial planning package. After gathering some data from the client I created a 12 month financial plan. A requirement of the package is to meet monthly and review actual results against what was planned. During the monthly meeting we would also forecast the remainder of the 12 months by combining actual results with the remaining plan. This allowed us to determine were we needed to pivot and how close the client was to achieving their goal. I was extremely proud when my client achieved their goal 3 months sooner than we planned. The consistency of meeting and reviewing the numbers gave them the power to cut back on expenses where necessary and push for more clients when needed. There was always a focus on the target revenue and the responsibility of analyzing any shortcomings. Instead of just being content with whatever sales were made in a month, they had a number in mind to reference. It is a strong belief of mine that setting a financial goal for your business is important as well as having a financial plan. The financial goal serves as a target while the financial plan is the roadmap for getting to that target. As a small business owner having a financial plan can be crucial to the success of your business.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
While most people think of Accounting as boring, I have always wanted to be an Accountant and have a genuine love for it. I wanted to be an Accountant from a little girl and worked hard to overcome every obstacle to achieve that goal. I enjoy working with small business owners because many of them do not understand how to organize their business finances. The started a business because they have a passion, or they’re good at something, but they don’t know anything about putting together a profit and loss statement or a balance sheet. It is a joy for me to be able to share what I’ve learned over the years in my career and help these business owners improve their business.
In my career I never worked for a company that did not obsess over their finances, getting the financial statements at the end of the month is of utmost importance. I believe that small business owners should also take this approach with their business. It is hard to determine the success of your company without taking time to review your revenues and expenses.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
A challenge for many small business owners is Imposter Syndrome. It can be hard believing in yourself and your capabilities when you are working to establish your brand and build your clientele. You begin to compare yourself to other business and sometimes ask yourself.. what am I even doing? The negative thoughts pop into your head so easily. When I am faced with these moments I often try to connect with my support group. These are other individuals who are on the same journey and speak life into me and my business. They remind me of all that I’ve accomplished and what I am capable of. I also take time to review past successes. I find positive things that remind me of why I started along this path in the first place.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
In a social media world, I find that word of mouth is the best source of new clients. A word of mouth referral comes from a personal place. The person giving the referral either knows you personally or used your services in the past and was pleased with the outcome so much that they’re willing to tell someone else about you. That is powerful. It allows the individual receiving the referral to move forward with confidence because there is some level of familiarity.
