We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dionne Character. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dionne below.
Dionne, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
NO MEAT, NO SUGAR, NO ALCOHOL, NO DAIRY has been my lifestyle for the past 4-5 years, after making a conscious decision to transition to becoming Alkaline Vegan, living a plant-based lifestyle. I am now choosing food with the intention to approach my life with healthy ingredients, allowing my body to let the food do the work— improving my health and overall wellness.
I healed myself from migraine headaches, insomnia, inflammation and the addition to sugar and coffee. I detoxed for 90 days on onion broth. It was breakfast, lunch and dinner. I eventually released my body from cravings and foods that were not beneficial. This was one of the most difficult challenges of my life. I went through a series of events to change my mindset and my relationship with food.
I did kambo healing, duck flour, clay detoxes, took herbs and etc. I learned how to cook for the first time with super food ingredients. I am grounded, both physically and mentally. I have renewed energy, creativity and focus. I have better moods, improved sleep, less hunger and fewer cravings. I have fully tapped into the benefits of the plant world.
My journey began with food but it ended with my having a brand new life and career. I came up with the idea of becoming a Spiritual Food Healer after meeting incredible people, participating in harmonious spiritual celebrations, attending temple, fellow-shipping with monks and people from all walks of life living in Los Angeles, who were interested in liberating their pallets with the soil of the earth, living a meaningful life while pursuing a certain quality of living through food.
My greatest accomplishment with healing took place as I helped a client suffering with Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, brain fog and weight issues. My intention was just to help the client to transition to becoming alkaline vegan, however. in the end, I enhanced a life.
My service to the client included meal prepping and cooking alkaline vegan plant-based food for six months. I introduced the client to herbs, detoxing methods and meditation techniques with the intention of reducing his vitals and also learning how to choose better products when cooking. He lost weight, his glucose levels dropped and his blood pressure was lowered.
This experience was very rewarding and really hard because food addiction is connected to emotions, which is where the spiritual healing comes into play because it’s really hard battling with your mind and gut along with bad habits. .
This inspired me to write a new book entitled “Goddess Wild.” My intention with this book which will be released early 2024 is to provide a guide from my experiences with transitioning to a plant-based lifestyle. I hope to inspire more women and men to become aware of the myriad of healing benefits available to improve overall wellness.
Dionne, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Essence Festival Bestselling Author, Entertainment Editor, Female Empowerment Columnist, Blogger, Media Personality, Celebrity Red Carpet Host, Creative Writing Instructor and Singer, I was raised in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans, the birthplace of Jazz where I studied music, played several instruments and performed in musical theater productions. I have been holding a microphone since the tender age of 3, which was the birth of my talents singing in church.
I created my own media brand with CHARACTER HOLLYWOOD a site bringing you media through my creative lifestyle, as I might be covering an event, singing in a band, interviewing celebrities or partnering with other creatives. My move to Los Angeles was to broaden my brand, which was successful as I am now a Spiritual Food Healer after transitioning to becoming Alkaline Vegan, living a plant-based lifestyle.
I am the author of 7 Pairs of Black Shoes, Wild Flower: Growing From The Muck, Twisted Straps and A Sapphire Moon, Street Diva and You Better Got Your Dream, a Journal for Women Creatives, released April, 2021.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Growing up in New Orleans, everyone is talented! I was raised in church and started singing at an early age. By the time I was a teenager, I was a professional singer and by the time I was an adult, I traveled to Europe, New York and a host of other cities performing. This was where the structure was implemented.
My reputation was built on being able to meet people and communicate. I have developed so many relationships with clients who have turned into business partners and friends. People respect my work and most of them are eager to attend book signings, gigs, and creative events.
My clients continue to grow with me and I am so grateful for that. Most people have a collection of my books, which is so amazing. I coach creatives. I am accessible and always willing to help anyone who wants to spearhead a campaign.
My success lies within my talents and the talent to make people feel that they can do exactly what I’m doing if they dare to dream. .
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My food journey took so much resilience. I had to unlearn everything I was taught. I had to completely shut down my body for 90 days, while enjoying onion broth. The cravings for sugar and coffee nearly wiped me completely out. The amount of reprogramming took years, as I had to reconstruct a new way of living and enjoying food.
It’s a constant battle not being able to go out with friends who still drink and love to eat meat but my new lifestyle has opened a new pathway to living. I am happy everyday. I am creative and I can do anything I put my mind to because resilience. is my superpower.
