We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dio Zogaris. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dio below.
Dio, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you take vacations? Why or why not?
If you’re so busy as an entrepreneur, it either means you’re at the beginning, or successful enough to get help. Preferably getting a vacation shouldn’t be an issue but if your business is so busy it needs someone in charge even for a few days/weeks, then it’s time to bring someone else on board at least for the time you’ll be on vacation. It’s crucial to take a step back and breathe.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Dionysis (Dio) Zogaris, I am a Canadian-born Greek Writer and Designer who grew up in Athens. My father used to paint me and my brother used to draw a lot. I took drawing classes later in life during College while I also studied Graphic Design. Eventually, I wanted to work on Film/Animation and decided to explore screenwriting more. Once I discovered screenwriting I was hooked. Must have wrote many original screenplays in months, although amateurish I learned a lot and improved fast. Eventually one of my screenplays ‘God Summoner’ was converted into a Graphic Novel which I worked with an Illustrator from 2019 to 2023. Now I am working on my first novel, ‘Short Stories from Ancient Egypt’, a collection of fables centered around Ancient Egypt, inspired by my travels in Egypt. I am currently publishing all of books/projects through Kickstarter under ‘Dio Zogaris’ as well as my upcoming Animated Horror short coming next year!

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Creating bigger, more ambitious projects can take many people. Otherwise, you’ll get burned out or need years to finish one project and unless you have friends and family working for free (just like you would), you need to compensate artists for their work. That’s why I moved back to Canada and worked for 3 years to save up enough money to hire the best illustrator for my Graphic Novel, God Summoner.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I feel like the biggest difference between creative and non-creative people, is the child-like resilience to create. Create anything, really, like a big buffet of colors and ideas, you just don’t stop creating. It is suffocating not to create so we don’t stop, probably ever.
