We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dino Mujic a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Dino thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
´The May Bench´, my first proper short film! We just finished shooting it 3 weeks ago and are currently in the post-production stage.
It’s a very personal project that is dedicated to a very important person I lost a few years ago. It’s a story about cancer, death and the places that connect us to the people we lost. When someone dies, they’re not completely gone. They leave behind memories and feelings within us, that are often tied to specific places. Places that remind us of them and connect us. This short film explores that and the goal is to help others with their grief.
While the film is quite melancholic, shooting it was the complete opposite! We had an incredible cast & crew and everyone had a ton of fun. It meant a lot seeing so many people gather to help make something so important and special to me. And some came from quite far away just for this! It was a very international production. We shot it close to where I live, on the border to Germany and Switzerland. While most of the crew was from one of those two countries, we also had someone from the United States and also Bosnia.
It was an unforgettable experience and I learned a ton. I cannot wait to share it with the world soon! The current plan is to release it later this year.

Dino, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
In 2020, I started an Instagram account called “Every Shot a Painting”. There I shared my favorite stills from all the films I’d watch. The account quickly grew into something much bigger than I had ever anticipated and I found a community full of filmlovers. I made so many lifelong friends through it and connections that helped me get started as a filmmaker myself! Through that I found support to make my first short film.
I continue to post on @everyshotapainting and I don’t plan on ever stopping. It’s something I still do for myself primarily, because it’s fun and sort of a creative outlet for me. But my plans are much bigger now. I’m already working on more projects, especially writing and directing. Those are what I enjoy the most. But I want to try out everything and keep learning! I want to help others with their projects, help them fulfil their dream. All that while also moving towards my dream of making an actual feature film one day.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Working with others!
It’s such a beautiful thing to collaborate on something creative with other talented people. I think that’s actually one of the best things about films. You have so many people coming together to create something special and everyone puts a little piece of their heart into it. To have everyone be proud of the final result is something very rewarding, especially if it’s a project that started with an idea you wrote alone in your room. To see it evolve and pull other people into it, it’s a cool feeling. It’s like a black hole you created, but instead of destroying things, it sucks people in and gives them an outlet to be creative and have fun.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Be yourself, be consistent, be kind and accepting.
In the beginning I didn’t want to reveal much about myself. I wanted to keep my page mostly anonymous and personality-free. But after a while, I realised that people wanted to know more about me. They didn’t just come to see a robot post images, they wanted to hear my thoughts and opinions on films. They wanted to chat with someone, get recommendations and see which movies I´m watching. So I started letting my personality and sense of humor seep through my page. I think that’s a big key on social media, being yourself and not faking to be someone you’re not.
Also taking the time to interact, respond and chat with people. Social Media should be about connecting with others, so taking the time and actually talking to your audience is very important.
