We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dinnia Quiros. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dinnia below.
Dinnia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
As a professional photographer who is now doing it full time, I can share my journey and how I made it happen.
I started during the pandemic when I lost my job as a Housekeeper , I have always had a passion for photography and started pursuing it at 2014 in Costa Rica . Over time, I honed my skills and developed a portfolio that showcased my work. This portfolio helped me gain recognition and started attracting clients who appreciated my work.
However, to turn my passion into a full-time career, I needed to create a plan. I researched the market demand for photography services and identified my target audience. This helped me determine the type of photography I wanted to specialize in and set my business goals.
I also created a website to showcase my portfolio and services and used social media platforms to promote my work and attract potential clients.
Networking was also crucial to building my business. I attended local events and met other photographers, vendors, and potential clients. I joined online photography groups and forums and participated in discussions to establish myself as a knowledgeable and reliable photographer.
Pricing was another important factor in building my business. I researched the market and set competitive pricing for my services. I also offered packages and promotions to attract new clients.
To continue growing my business, I attend workshops, seminars, and online courses to learn new techniques and stay up-to-date with the latest trends in photography.
Overall, my journey to becoming a full-time professional photographer required hard work, dedication, and perseverance.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started my journey in photography after losing my job due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Although it was a challenging time, it also presented an opportunity for me to pursue my passion for photography.
Before the pandemic, I had always enjoyed taking photos as a hobby, but I had never considered it as a career. However, when I lost my job, I realized that I needed to find a new path, and photography seemed like the perfect fit.
At first, I started by taking photos for friends and my daughter , just for crated my portafolio . However, as I shared my work on social media, I began to receive requests from people who were impressed with my photos. I started to take on small projects, like portraits and product photography, and quickly found that I enjoyed it more than anything else I had done before.
With each new project, my confidence grew, and I began to realize that I had a real talent for photography. I started to invest in better equipment and began to learn more ,how the business works.
As I gained more experience, I began to market my services more aggressively. I created a website and started advertising on social media, and soon I had a steady stream of clients. Word-of-mouth referrals also helped me to build a loyal customer base.
One of the things that sets me apart from my competitors is my love for connecting with my clients. I understand that being in front of a camera can be intimidating for some people, so I make a point to establish a rapport with my clients and create a relaxed, comfortable environment.
By getting to know my clients, I am able to better understand their personalities and preferences, which helps me to capture the essence of who they are in my photos. This connection also helps my clients to feel confident and at ease during the shoot, which ultimately leads to better pictures.
Whether I am working with a family, a couple, or a corporate team, I make it a priority to create a positive, enjoyable experience for everyone involved. I believe that this personalized approach is key to creating exceptional photographs that truly capture the spirit and personality of my clients.
Overall, my journey in photography has been an exciting and fulfilling one, and I am grateful for the opportunity to pursue my passion and connect with so many wonderful clients along the way.
How’d you meet your business partner?
My journey in photography has been an exciting and fulfilling one, and I owe a large part of my success to the unwavering support of my Husband & Daughter
My husband and daughter have been my biggest cheerleaders from the very beginning. They are my cofounder.
They have encouraged me to pursue my passion for photography and have been there for me every step of the way.
My husband is my go-to assistant on many of my shoots. He helps me set up equipment, adjust lighting, and even acts as a second photographer when needed. His technical expertise and creative input have been invaluable to my business, and I am grateful for his willingness to help out whenever I need it.
Beyond their practical assistance, my family provides me with the emotional support that is so important for any business owner. They are always there to listen to my ideas, offer feedback, and help me stay motivated during the tough times.
Their unwavering support and encouragement have played a huge role in my success, and I am grateful for their presence in my life.
In conclusion, my photography business would not be where it is today without the help and support of my husband and daughter. They are truly my partners in this venture, and I am grateful to have them by my side.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
With this settlement, my husband and I decided to invest in a Full Frame Camara As my skills improved, I started taking on small projects for friends, and soon I was getting referrals from them. I realized that I had a real talent for photography, and that I could turn this passion into a business.
However, starting a business is never easy, especially when it requires expensive equipment. Fortunately, my husband was there to support me every step of the way. He encouraged me to invest in the best equipment possible, and helped me fund my business in the early stages.
Thanks to his support, I was able to purchase all the equipment I needed to take my photography to the next level. As my business grew, I was able to upgrade my equipment even further, and today I have a full suite of professional gear.
Despite the challenges of starting a business, I have never looked back. I am grateful for my husband’s support and for the opportunity to turn my passion into a fulfilling career.
