We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dineta Williams-Trigg. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dineta below.
Hi Dineta, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
So I started in front of the camera many moons ago. I got tired of being typecast as the black best friend ,the hooker with the heart of gold or the drug addict. I understood that if I wanted this situation to change, I had to change it. I bought a camera and started telling stories about relationships that I wanted to see, with people who look like me. I didn’t go to film school, I just read everything that i could get my hands on about movie making and watched a lot of movies. then started submitting my short films to festivals and alas it was rejected time and time again. So, I took a risk and with the help from my community, started my own film festival ” A Night of Misfit Films festival. She will be seven years old in 2022. As a woman of a certain age there is a quote that I absolutely believe in “YOU ARE NEVER TO OLD TO DO ANYTHING”-Betty White just keep putting one foot in front of the other. I have made a promise to myself to never give up on my passions.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am just a girl covered in scars. The scars are the road map of my life. They remind me of where I have been and where I am going. “Full Figure Productions” is my production company, we tell stories of the marginalized and forgotten. I am a big girl., there is no hiding my size. I have decided to embrace who i am an help others to find their gifts as well. “Not everyone is a straight line”
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
My worth is based on my size. It’s a lie. I’m big and beautiful and worthy of everything wonderful that the universe has in store for me. In order for me to shine, I don’t have to try and dim your light. I am enough, but so are all of us.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I will use the analogy in terms of being pregnant. You start with an idea, a tiny spark in your belly. You talk about it with some of your friends, that you trust, writing down more of the ideas. Your belly begins to grow. Several rewrites later, you are heavy with the story. You cast it, film it, edit it . You have given birth to your baby., brought it into the world, released it. Hoping that the world will understand it enough to appreciate it. So I love having an idea and the being able to execute it.
