We recently connected with Dineta Williams and have shared our conversation below.
Dineta, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My Partner and I have been directing film festivals since 2016. As a filmmaker myself, nothing gives me more pleasure than being able to assist a filmmaker with screening a project, that they have worked tirelessly to complete.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My Partner and I now screen film festivals in 3 countries and the U.S, with more film festival opportunities on the horizon. We are Independent filmmakers who understand how difficult it is to get films made independently. our goals are to help these filmmakers find an audience for their films and finally get what every filmmaker wants, distribution!. I started in front of the camera and was dissatisfied with the roles that I was getting typecast as. I started ” Full Figure Productions to give other marginalized people the opportunity to tell their stories as well.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I’m a just a girl covered in scars. My history has not always been pretty. My scars tell the world the path that I have been on. Sometimes bumpy sometimes smooth. I am still here , when there have been times when I probably should have rolled over and died, I NEVER GAVE UP HOPE, even when I was suffering from Imposter Syndrome. I have always believed that I have more to give, more life to live. There is a quote by the late great Betty White that I subscribe to…. ” You are never too old to do anything” Don’t give up before the miracle happens.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I’ve always been a storyteller. I was the weird little kid who loved to dream.When adults were telling me that I needed a steady career i.e. Nurse, Social Worker, I always knew that I could be more.
