Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dimitrius Lovett. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dimitrius, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Starting up a business was one of the biggest risks that I have ever taken in life. To quit a job that you’ve worked hard to get while making a decent living to start up a company that you are not guaranteed to succeed in. That risk is the life changing one. It is worth it because of the freedom/happiness that you can have while doing it. You will work harder for something that you are passionate about.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Basketball and working out have always been passions for me. It started when I was trying to get myself to become a high level athlete and all the training that I did to do so. You start to appreciate how you’re bad at something new when you start it but when you put in the work, you get better and better. As you put in the work, your confidence starts to rise and you start accomplishing things that you never knew that would be possible. I solve the problems of making sure that my clients believe in themselves no matter what how hard the task is. The thing that sets me apart from other people is that I really take time to know all of my athletes, learn them, learn what communication process works best, etc… I study their body so I really understand how to train them in the weight room based on their body structure and what their goal is. For basketball training, I watch film of them playing to understand the strengths and weaknesses that they possess. It’s big to learn the players and their feel for the game. I take pride in this because ultimately, my dedication can determine if they can take their game to the next level. I am proud of the fact that I never quit when starting a business was tough.
Can you open up about how you managed the initial funding?
Funding my business came from my own pockets. I invest the money that I need for equipment, softwares, travel, etc… into this. Which meant I had to pick up other jobs to do so.
Any advice for managing a team?
When you have to manage a team, the first I would say to do is be clear and direct. From the go, you should let expectations and goals be known so that way everyone is on the same page and can be held accountable. To keep a high morale, you want to make sure that you’re valuing all of your employees. Meaning that you praise them and give an ear to their ideas when they have them.
