We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dillon Thomas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dillon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
At Dill’s Images, our mission is to help people and businesses show up confidently and tell their stories through powerful visuals. But for me, it’s more than just snapping pictures—it’s personal.
I started this business because I saw how much representation and purpose matter, especially for people who don’t always feel seen. Whether it’s a small business owner chasing a dream or someone celebrating a big moment in life, I want my clients to feel like they matter—and that their story deserves to be captured with care and creativity.
My faith and upbringing taught me the value of serving others with excellence, and I carry that into every shoot. I’m not just showing up with a camera—I’m showing up with heart, intention, and a mission to help people feel confident in who they are and what they’re building.
This mission matters because I’ve seen how the right image can shift how someone sees themselves—and that kind of impact is what keeps me going.

Dillon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hey, I’m Dillon Thomas, the owner of Dill’s Images LLC—a photography brand built on purpose, creativity, and helping people feel seen. I started this journey because I believe everyone deserves to feel confident in their image, whether they’re a business owner, creative, or just celebrating a moment in life.
I specialize in branding sessions, headshots, birthday and lifestyle shoots, graduation photos, promo videos, and event coverage. What sets me apart is the way I connect with my clients—I don’t just take pictures, I create experiences that bring out the best in you.
As a plus-size Black male model and content creator myself, I understand how important representation is. Dill’s Images exists to make people feel powerful, confident, and proud of who they are—on and off the camera.
If you’re looking for visuals that speak purpose and professionalism, I got you.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When I started Dill’s Images LLC, I knew social media would play a big role in getting my business off the ground. But honestly, it took time, trial and error, and a lot of learning to figure out what actually works.
At first, I focused heavily on posting my work—clean edits, client shots, and highlights from recent sessions. But what I quickly learned was that people connect more with the person behind the camera than just the pictures themselves.
The turning point came when I started to really show me. I shared my story as a creative entrepreneur, my faith, my perspective as a plus-size Black male model, and why I do what I do. I started using my platform not just to promote services, but to educate, encourage, and connect.
Short-form video—especially Reels—was a game changer. Once I began showing behind-the-scenes moments, transformations, and client stories in video form, engagement grew fast. People love to see the process, not just the final product.
But even more than content, it was consistency and community that built my following. I made a point to post regularly, respond to comments, support other creatives, and build relationships online just like I would in person. Over time, that created a loyal audience who not only enjoys my work but trusts me as a person and professional.
My Advice to Those Just Starting Out:
• Show up as your full self. People want to know the heart behind your brand. Share your journey, your values, and even your challenges. That’s what makes you relatable.
• Be consistent. You don’t have to post every day, but create a rhythm your audience can rely on.
• Use video. Don’t be afraid to turn the camera around and let people see the face behind the brand. Reels, stories, and behind-the-scenes content go a long way.
• Engage with your audience. It’s not just about gaining followers—it’s about building relationships. Respond to comments, ask questions, and celebrate others.
• Keep learning. Social media changes fast. Don’t get discouraged—just stay flexible and keep growing.
I’m still on the journey myself, but what I know for sure is this: authenticity, consistency, and connection will always beat algorithms. And when you build a brand rooted in purpose, people will follow.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal is to be a vessel and a role for the people in my community and anyone in the creative field. I’m grateful for the opportunities With being in this industry, I’ve learned to operate in my gift which is being a helping hand to others and to be encouraging. My biggest goal would be to open a huge space for creatives and artists to create and showcase their talents for the world to see.
