We were lucky to catch up with Dillon Mann recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dillon, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I started with doing a lot of background which then ended up turning into professional film acting through auditions my agencies were submitting me for.
I’ve also worked a ton of production over the years introducing me to the 12 plus hour a day grind of film production.
I’ve worked both in front and behind the camera with 20th century Fox, Disney plus, HBO, nascar, Cinemax, and many other production companies.
I’m now the owner of talent inc the studio which is an industry recognized training facility to help actors models and singers receive representation and industry standard training.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I familiarized myself with the industry thanks to Tona Dahlquist who is a photo double/stand in/background casting director for the southeast. I continued to network with cast and crew realizing that this was something I wanted to make a career out of.
One of the biggest challenges for me was transitioning from stage acting to TV and film acting which is definitely night and day. I started at a very young age doing plays.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I definitely wish I knew more of TV and film training facilities versus the drama schools that I spent a lot of time doing. A lot of agencies don’t take into consideration drama schools theatrical training et cetera.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me it would definitely be getting to work with others, learning about perspective and collaborating in a community based project. I love the feeling of seeing a project come together after working with so many talented individuals.
