We recently connected with Dillon Amir and have shared our conversation below.
Dillon, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission is to inspire people and show them you can live a happy and successful life as an artist. Some may say being a photographer is a harsh career choice, and it can be. I came to notice that the right opportunities will come to you at the right time, and the ones that aren’t for you will pass. My mission is important to me because I stand for the free artists & thinkers that are left in society and I strive to build a community with the more like minded.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a Los Angeles based freelance photographer, 10 times published! I enjoy shooting portraits of models as well as traveling the world and capturing my views and experiences. So far, I have only visited 3 countries but I plan to continue traveling and become a travel photographer. My portfolio reflects the expression of beauty as well as nature and it’s extraordinary views I experience while traveling.
When I first dove into my craft, I was young in my junior year of high school, learning how to edit video footage. Shorty after that summer, my mom purchased a digital camera for me. I started out just going out with friends and shooting photos and videos for fun. It was only until I went to my first year of college in Santa Monica where I truly fell in love with my craft. During my experience at Santa Monica college, I took courses like (Photo 101) and (Photo Journalism) and ultimately it strengthened my knowledge of how to master lighting as well as strengthen my story telling abilities.
Some services I provide for my clients are headshots, portrait photos, product photos and BTS video footage. I sell prints, canvases, post cards, and calendars on my website dillonamirimagery.com All photos were taken on my overseas trips, capturing all the amazing places and experiences I embody.
I think what sets me apart from other photo artists is that I am on a mission to liberate free thinkers through storytelling with my photos.
The proudest moments in my career so far has been being published 10 times this year, with one being a cover issue. I would also like to share that I have now opened my private photo studio this year.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My overall mission with photography is to freelance and make a living as a travel photographer, capturing images of models and breath taking landscape views. One of my passions is traveling the world. I currently visited three countries in counting. I plan to spend three months in four different countries throughout the year as a multi national contracted visual artist.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn is there is no right time for anything. For a while, I used to procrastinate and sit on task, because I am a perfectionist. Being a perfectionist, I had the tendency to hold on to ideas for a long time, and fear execution because of imperfection. Once I overcame being a perfectionist and maintained having pride in my work even in if it feels incomplete in my eyes, I started to become a more successful entrepreneur. You have to chase your dream and goals aggressively. Take that trip, Make that investment , produce that great idea that has been lingering in your mind forever. Always take the steps and make sure to follow through.
