Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dillan Lowrie. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dillan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was taking a year off from school to fully focus on my photography business.
A year ago, I was juggling classes while building my photography business on the side, and it reached a point where I realized I couldn’t keep doing both well. I finally started to understand photography wasn’t just a hobby or something I liked to do on the side; it was something I felt genuinely called to, especially weddings. I wanted to take a leap and believe in myself and in my dream for once, and I’ll never regret that.
Making that choice was scary, and it definitely wasn’t the traditional or safe one. But I chose to see it as giving myself the room to see what was possible when I put all my energy into the dream.
It’s become my full-time job: improving, practicing, marketing, building connections, and, of course, creating.
This year has paid off better than I could’ve dreamed, and I’ve loved every second of it. I’ve been booking wedding after wedding and capturing true love stories one after another. More than anything, this year has shown me that when you lead with care, love, consistency, and intention, people will notice.
I’m incredibly grateful I took the leap and for all the learning lessons that came with it. I cannot wait to see where I go from here.

Dillan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a wedding photographer based in Arizona, focusing on the emotions, connections, and love stories that unfold, and telling those stories in a way that feels honest and timeless.
I started getting into photography when I was 15, finally turning my passion for taking photos into a business. I loved capturing moments and paying attention to the little things people might overlook. Over time, that curiosity turned into something more intentional. Friends started asking me to take their photos, then couples, then families, and eventually weddings became the place where everything clicked for me.
Weddings combine everything I love about photography: emotion, energy, storytelling, and trust. When I capture someone’s wedding, I’m stepping into their most meaningful day, and that responsibility matters to me. I don’t take it lightly. I want couples to feel relaxed, understood, and confident knowing their memories are in good hands.
I shoot digital and film photography, which helps set me apart from other photographers. I’m intentional with my work and aim to make it transport you right back to your wedding day. I care deeply about communication, preparation, and showing up fully. I want couples to feel like they’re working with someone who truly understands them, not just hiring a vendor. Every wedding is different, and I approach each one with fresh eyes and genuine excitement.
I’m proud of my work and my attention to detail. I love telling other peoples love stories through my lens with emotion and real timeless photos you’ll hold onto forever. What I want potential clients and followers to know most is that I care. I care about your story, your people, and the moments that matter to you. This work means a lot to me, and I bring that heart into everything I do.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
A really great source of new clients for me has been social media. I think social media is really a ‘you get out of it what you put into it’ thing. I get lots of inquiries when I’m consistently posting on Instagram and TikTok, then bookings slow down when I slow down with my posting. Sharing real shoots, behind the scenes moments, and pieces of my process helps couples get to know my work and my personality before reaching out. By the time they inquire, there’s already trust there, which makes the connection feel easy and genuine.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a photographer for me is getting to be part of real, genuine moments in people’s lives. I get to witness big milestones, love, commitment, accomplishment, and see people show up as their true selves in front of my lens.
I’m not just documenting what something looked like, I’m preserving how it felt. Watching my clients celebrate, feel proud, emotional, and fully present (and knowing those moments will live on through my pictures) is what makes this work so meaningful to me.
