We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dilayla Mena Adriano a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dilayla , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
Some of the newest trends that are lash clusters ! There has always been some type of “ fake “ lash around , like falsies but now there’s clusters and they come in many different styles . I think this trend is cool and convenient for the clients who don’t have the time to lay on a bed for 2-3 hours or on a tighter budget as lash extensions aren’t the cheapest thing on the market . I personally don’t think clusters will make lash extensions disappear! There’s people like me who take those appointments as personal time or cannot apply a falsie to save my life . I know a lot of lash artist were starting to get intimidated with this trend but the truth is there has always been the DIY clients and clients who would rather pay someone else to perform the service and that’s not changing . If anything this gives me the chance to work on my styles to help me stand out more !

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve been a lash artist since 2020 & recently got my license in Aesthetics ! I started lashing during the pandemic as in my bestfriend extra room at the same time I was finishing up school to be a medical assistant. I worked for ASU as a Covid Tester from 8-5 & would lash a client at 6pm everyday and weekends for about a year ! Then decided to lash full time and haven’t gone back . I love making my clients feel special and like they can say anything in my lash room . My room is always cozy and chilly so I have warm blankets for my clients and snacks if they’re in need of a snack before or after their appointment. I want each client to walk out of my room feeling brand new & confident . Each set is customized to fit the clients eye , unless they are particular with a selective style . I also offer tiny tattoos ! I’ve been a fine line tattoo artist for only a year . I have a couple flash sheets posted on my page & try to post a monthly flash sheet but with school lately I’ve been so busy I haven’t had the time to post one ! I’m extremely excited to expand my business and rebrand !

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients has been TikTok ! I like to post on TikTok daily , so most of my newer clients have came from watching my daily skin care videos or random lashing videos I post on my TikTok page .

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think word of mouth is extremely important and how you treat that individual even it’s one appointment. I treat every session like it would be my last , I don’t ever want my clients walking out unsatisfied or feeling like they just wasted their hard earned money . I have gotten a lot of clients being recommendations and clients telling other clients ! I’m extremely blessed that my clients feel honored to share who their lash artist is .
