We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Di’Janea Williams. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Di’Janea below.
Di’Janea, appreciate you joining us today. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today
I would step out in Faith quicker than I did. I’m a firm believer that your Faith has to be stronger than your mind and starting my business made me stand on that. I was at a standstill because I was holding myself back and didn’t believe in me but I have a support system that go over and beyond for me and Believe in me and they pushed me to do it and my business wouldn’t be what it is without them.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I specialize in Hair and Makeup! My hair journey started when I was about 12 years old but I got back into it around 2018 and just grew closer to my passion again. I love when my clients get out that chair and be feeling themselves. Making others smile make my heart smile. I started my makeup journey after I had my daughter in 2015 during my postpartum depression faze. I suffered tremendously with myself due to depression and I didn’t want to take medication so my doctor suggested a new hobby and when he asked me what I liked to do I told him that I loved watching makeup tutorials on YouTube and he told me to go for it and after that I went for it. I did makeup on myself for a year and started doing facebook lives and grew a great deal of supporters that trusted me to do their makeup and I grew. I turned my pain into my passion. The blueprint was laid out for me through my struggles and I had it all along and didn’t even see it! I opened my suite in the mist of the Covid pandemic and it was hard but I made it through! I keep Faith in everything I do. I love my clients and try my best to give them the customer service I would want.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Get That Money by Any Means Necessary!!! I had to learn that all money ain’t good money. I use to never turn clients down even when they use to give me a hard time just never was the type to make anyone feel uncomfortable but when I started experiencing complaining clients and those who couldn’t be satisfied I learned that you cannot please everyone no matter what you do. You just might not be the stylist or makeup artist for them and that’s okay.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Consistency is Key and interacting with your target audience. I use to do Facebook lives doing my makeup and I would do those twice a week. I had to stay consistent with my lives. I learned the times that people would interact the most. I did makeup looks that caught people eyes. I also didn’t give up when I only had 6 people on my live I followed through everytime. Stay consistent!
