We were lucky to catch up with Diemond D recently and have shared our conversation below.
Diemond, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
When friends/family or acquaintances ask me about starting their own business, or what it’s like to run a business, it often gets followed up with questions about risks. The truth is, as a business owner, risks are taken on a daily basis but I will always say the biggest risk you’ll take in entrepreneurship is the investment in yourself. The willingness to see your ideas all the way through. I’ve been messing with music my entire life and I only just recently decided to take the risk and turn it into something bigger. I turned my passion into my job. I took that risk. My ‘Why’ is because my family. I want to leave something behind that’ll generate income for the rest of their lives. When I’m long gone, they can continue to live off of what I built. Figure out your ‘Why’ and let that drive you. If your ‘Why’ is important enough, the rewards will always outweigh the risks.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Diemond D, a music producer/entrepreneur.
I got into music at 2 years old where my parents bought my 1st drum set. I didn’t get into the industry until way later. I started out rapping and ultimately ended up sticking to just producing for others.
On the surface, it may look like I just make beats, but that’s just a piece of what makes up my entire brand.
I provide entertaining music-based content across all platforms such as youtube shorts, facebook/instagram reels and tiktok.
I live stream on Twitch every week. These live streams are much more than just beat making sessions. I provide a fun and interactive viewing experience by not only showing viewers how I make beats, but I also provide information on the music business itself through our Q&A. We also have a Live Feeback portion of the stream. People from all over the world tune in during the live stream and drop music into our discord server. From there I go down the line and play their music live on stream and provide feedback when necessary. This has been the most popular portion of the stream as it gives upcoming and aspiring artists/producers a chance to showcase their work to everyone all over the world by utilizing my platform.
Our discord serves as the main hub for everything. Our community uses the discord server to not only keep up to date with what we have going on, but as a a member of the community, you get early access to new upcoming projects, FREE drumkits for music production and all announcements surrounding our community. Anyone is welcome to join!
Our Sample Roulette portion of the live stream on Twitch is also a fan favorite. It’s where community members will leave songs in the discord for me to randomly select, sample and produce a beat using that sample live on the spot during the stream. It’s definitely my favorite part of the stream.
On my website, you’ll find my entire catalog of beats where anyone can purchase a license to use and will fit everyone’s budget. My catalog is updated weekly with new beats so check it out if you’re interested in getting top tier production at an affordable price.
I offer mixing and mastering services on my website as well. Get your music or any audio files cleaned up and ready for distribution.
Lastly, I have merch! My store is small but expanding. I have beanies, hoodies, bomber jackets and slides. The slides are the most popular item btw lol
One of the things I’m most proud of recently, is getting a placement with an artist who has 2 Billboard plaques! An artist who goes by the name of Burden picked up a beat of mine. The song is called Been Drowning. You should definitely check it out and let me know what you think!
So to sum it all up for you. I’m more than just a music producer. I’m an entire experience. My love and passion for music is driven by community building and providing the ultimate experience for everyone who wishes to be a part of it all. From beats, merch, mixing/mastering services, live stream entertainment and feedback, I’m sure I have something for everyone who’s involved in the music space!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
This is always one of my favorite things to talk about. Often I find many friends/family members who start a side hustle or want to get into owning a business but have trouble finding an audience/generating sells. Here’s how I’ve been able to garner an audience, generate sells and create brand loyalty using social media.
You have to use ALL OF THEM! I always run into someone who refuses to use tiktok. Yes I get it. having to install and learn a new app is annoying but things are constantly changing. My reply is always the same “you’re leaving out a potential client”
Figure out your niche and run with it. Build a community using all the social media platforms. Don’t neglect one for the other.
In my case, I LOVE to make people laugh and I love music. Knowing this, how can I promote my brand? Easy! I’ll say a joke and start drumming out some beats on my MPC. On the video itself I provide links to my Twitch channel and my website that hosts my beats for sell, my mixing/mastering services and merch.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I’m still working my 40 hours a week for an amazing company. But my business does run full time as well. Realistically speaking, I don’t think I’d want to leave my job to focus on my business full time. The reason for this is because of my mental health. In 2020, when the pandemic hit, I lost my job and was trying to do work from home stuff and to be honest I just didn’t like it. I became sad and depressed. I need to get out and see people. To interact with them. Hear people’s stories. This also serves as the main way I can soak up inspiration for my next track. Just simple act of commuting to my job is so productive to my business. I’ll randomly start humming melodies, then a bass line, start beatboxing drums. Before I know it, I’ll have a fully fleshed out song by the time I get to work. This wouldn’t happen if I’m just stuck at home daily.
