We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Diego Bravo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Diego , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
Oh man — the beginning of Psypresents was truly a spur of the moment concept that began with myself and one of my closest friends. At the time we were just normal street promoters for our local edm venue, and we finally built up the idea to generate a house party and invite everyone we’ve met over the years. In under 24 hours we generated over 150 people, just off our personal social network! After this event The future of hosting events began to make sense with the spark of inspiration — that if we could do this in the smaller scale, scaling up would definitely be achievable. As the months went on and the events kept happening we were finding success and the hard work had started paying off. Although my starting partner isn’t with the company anymore I always sit back and think “what would Sam do to add personality to this event?”. Without Sam’s belief in this project, Psypresents wouldn’t be here. this company will forever grateful to his belief in the future of Psypresents.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well to give everyone a quick summary, I started my way into the event industry as a normal nightclub promoter working with various clubs in Florida. As I continued to grow I started expanding into promoting for major festivals on the east coast, and eventually moved into nationwide promotion for festivals around the country. This is a extremely stressful industry to be in based on so much distractions and things to make you lose focus within this industry but you have to find that balance of work and play to continue making process. I definitely separate myself from other in this industry because at the end of the day is generating events with lineups that curate amazing musical talent, and don’t focus on what will make me look “cooler” in the spot light or what is the “proper” way to do things I believe in myself as much as I believe in this project and due to that my lineups stay unique with various headliners making debuts in my market.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Currently for the last year I’ve been working with my partner chris Goldstien — the owner of codelockdown events. This partnership was generated from the shared idea of similar lineups we wanted to create. Chris was working mainly online with livestreams and built his market in an impressive manner it only made sense for us to combine our fan base and start generating bigger live events! In the beginning I’m sure we both thought this partnership was going to be short lived but now I can’t even imagine doing an event without chris.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My reputation and market definitely couldn’t have been created without my home venue TK Lounge. TK Lounge is recognized as the leader in the underground EDM scene bringing some of the newest and most talented artist within the electric dance music genre. With not only have an established market that’s welcoming to new promoters — the staff there receives you with open arms and helps you not only with your personal life but your professional life as well like if you’ve been part of their family your whole life. My gratitude will forever be will this venue.
