We were lucky to catch up with Didi McCrossen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Didi , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?
I graduated with a degree in Dietetics at Arizona State University in 1994. While I was in school, I was working in a hospital as a diet rep, working with patients and modifying menus for their dietary needs Then I took a slightly different path where I started working for a Foodservice company as a sales representative with the intent of using my nutrition degree. Unbeknownst to me, the customers that I had, which were high-end restaurants, resorts, hotels, and even schools didn’t find any value in my nutrition background. The schools already had spec products for what they were going to use so my knowledge didn’t help there either. From there, I continued most of my career in the Foodservice industry selling food, janitorial supplies, and even paper goods. Ever since I was in high school, I always had an interest in nutrition and knew that that would be a path that I would take later in life in life with the hopes of being able to help anyone in need including my children, family and friends. As my career path evolved, I ended up working for a another Foodservice company in their healthcare department selling to hospitals, assisted living facilities, independent living, and memory care. At that point, my nutrition degree was being used and I was in my glory. Then after several years, I ended up getting a job with a snack, food company, selling snack foods into several segments in the food service industry, including healthcare. I’ve recently received my CDM/CFPP to be able to work closely with these facilities and work with people with the same certification. Currently, I am now studying to become a Certified Regenerative Health Practitioner with the Institute of Regenerative Health. With the certification, I will learn how to find the root cause of disease and other health related issues. I love the career path that I have taken, and I’ve never been happier because I’m able to do exactly what I have always dreamed of.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into the industry when I was in high school and perplexed about what was actually good for someone’s health including mine as a young athlete. One minute you hear that low fat is the way to go, then it’s high-protein, then low or no carbs. Because I was so perplexed by what was actually correct information, I decided to go to college to learn more about the body and nutrition. Currently I sell snack foods into Foodservice segments and I am also a consultant for a organic super food company where I’m able to help customers release unwanted weight, reduce inflammation, increase energy, enjoy deep restful sleep, banish bloating, relieve digestive issues, lift brain fog, reduce food sensitivities, and build lean muscle. I am also working with a company that manufactures a molecular hydrogen water bottle that is expertly engineered to produce water enriched with bioavailabile molecular hydrogen at therapeutic levels. What I am most proud about is that I am helping people understand nutrition better for their bodies, those they care for and how nutrition can play a significant role in longevity and health span.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Effective communication skills are crucial as a nutritionist to be able to convey complex nutritional information in a clear understand manner helps clients make informed decisions about what they eat and how active they are. Because I am so dedicated and passionate, I am committed to making a positive impact by providing empathetic guidance in achieving optimal well-being through nutrition. By me learning how to find the root cause of disease or health related issues, I believe that I can make a difference with the people or customers that I work with.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Not only does my excitement and my enthusiasm, show my passion for helping people with their health, and wellness but I also live a very clean and healthy lifestyle where I do what I teach.
