We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Didas Akognon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Didas below.
Hi Didas, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
The first time I knew I wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally was around the age of 10. At the time, I was in the 5th grade and apart of the morning show at my elementary school. My fifth grade teacher, Mr.White asked the class before this dismissal if anyone wanted to be part of a weekly morning show. I was selected along with several other classmates. As time went on, I became the first director and producer of the morning show. In the following year, I compiled a digital video yearbook that featured fellow students and showed our favorite memories as we headed off to middle school. Based on the skills and tools I obtained, I felt that I wanted pursue this professionally. I was already creatively sound, but it was something about capturing moments and memories that made me smile and at peace. I did not have a name for what I wanted to do but I knew that I wanted to create content that impacted the word.
Didas, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well my name is Didas Akognon, and I am Visionary. I call myself a visionary because I feel that I visualize things that go behind the natural eye. In other words, I think outside the box when I create and produce content . I am the owner and CEO of DDot Visualz, LLC. We are based in the Washington, DC metro area and have been in business for the last 5 years. The services we provide are: Photography, Videography, Graphic Design, and more. The problems I solve for clients is to help them capture their event or production and produce a quality edit or product for either distribution, promotion, and most of all memories to generations to come. What I feel that sets me apart of other is planning and follow up afterwards. I feel that I provide my clients with my experience and expertise in order to make sure their needs are met visually and creatively. The things I am proud of thus far is having the pleasure to work with a lot clients over the last couple years. I wasn’t sure how things would take off when I first started. However, it became bigger because of the networking and connections I made over time.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
What I feel society can do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving ecosystem is first: Support and Share. I feel that the lively hood of most multimedia brands and companies is based on how many clients they can obtain and work with . Referrals are very key to a creatives success because when you have first hand accounts of people who love your work, they can vouch for you more than anybody else. In addition, allowing creative to partake in project that help build community and society. As a filmmaker, I always want to tell a story with my work. In the communities and neighborhoods I have lived in, I always envisioned those people not having a voice or opportunity to tell their stories. I feel that I am the common denominator to make those opportunities a reality. Lastly, society can donate and fund projects. I feel that most projects need funding in order to produce films, documentaries, tv series and more. It always takes a village.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal or mission that has been driving my creative journey is to Be Visionary. That is my motto and tagline for my brand. I feel that the only way for me to tap in creatively and visually is to visualize and project or concept beyond my own level of thinking in order to create conversation and change. I want what people see through my lens to make them want to take action and find solutions.
